- Q. What is dry cleaning?
The process is slightly misleading in that the garments do get wet. The process is similar to ‘wet cleaning’ (washing)
but instead of water a chemical similar to white spirit is used. Like washing, the garments are placed in a drum, cleaned, and then dried.
- Q. How do I know the garments can be dry cleaned?
All clothes, except some handmade ones, have a care label detailed the cleaning process.
If the garment can be dry cleaned it will have a ‘P’ on the label. Sometimes it may have an ‘F’ or an ‘A’ which other
refer to dry cleaning in chemicals than the industry standard.
- Q. Will dry cleaning ruin my clothes?
Where the garment has been correctly labelled the process will not ruin your clothes. Most high street manufacturers send batches of their clothes
to be tested to destruction-meaning they are given rigorous dry cleaning testing.
- Q. Will all my stains come out?
It is important to let us know what the stain is. Different ‘spotting’ chemicals will work with different types of stain.
For example an agent that removes lipstick will not have any effect on an egg stain.
We endeavour to remove all stains with the utmost care, and where we feel there may be a risk of damage we will explain the potential
risks before seeking your consent to continue. However in the same way that polishing your car will not remove a dent,
not all stains may come out. If you stain your garment you will have a much better chance of success if you bring it to us as soon as possible.
- Q. Will dry cleaning shrink clothes?
No. Correctly labelled clothes have been checked prior to sale.
- Q. Will there be colour loss?
Dry cleaning is far more efficient at reducing colour loss than wet cleaning, and each clean will not result in noticeable colour loss.
However over time the agitation process of the machine will result in some colour loss. It is therefore advisable not to have garments cleaned too often,
and it the garment is part of a set (such as a suit) it is recommended that all parts are cleaned together.
