Stagecoach’s objectives are to promote, maintain, improve and to advance education, particularly through the production of educational plays and the encouragement of the Arts. Our young people learn – during the rehearsal process – the use of voice, movement, dance, stagecraft, self discipline, confidence, working together as a team and – most importantly – the development of self esteem. We aim to educate our young members in all aspects of theatre, including offering the opportunity of hands on experience in lighting, sound and stage management. We seek to constantly challenge and develop the young peoples’ skills (socially as well as practically).

We think its important that our work at Stagecoach is accessible to all audiences, so annually, we tale one of our shows on tour to some of York’s most prestigious homes such as the York Minster, Newby Hall and Castle Howard. We also give some of the more mature members the opportunity to take a show up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This gives them the chance and responsibility of working as a team to market the production and maintain the standard stet by the director for two weeks. The young people are also able to go and see any of the theatre, music, comedy, art, etc that is available to them during the festival.

Stagecoach Youth Theatre has been funded by the Arts Department of the City of York Council until recently. Due to significant cuts in the budgets Stagecoach has suffered tremendously and will have to depend on alternative funding within the next three years. Our other sources of income are donations and grants, the hiring of the studios, ticket sales and comparatively small participation fess. However we will not be increasing these production fees, as we feel that the importance of keeping drama accessible to all young people is much more valuable. We have a strong belief in equal opportunities for all, and will not refuse any potential member on grounds of race, disability or ability to pay.

We always look forward to taking on new members from the age of Seven upwards. Please fill in the latest application form from here (DOC) or call (01904) 674675.
