A large quatrefoil depicts a kilted soldier kneeling before a grave. Around the quatrefoil are thistles and poppies. At the foot of the soldier are the arms of Earl Haig. To the left and right of the shield two horsemen act as heraldic supporters. The one on the right carries a lance. Surmounting the shield are a crown, helmet and the motto of the Haigs - "Tyde What May".
