Welcome

Welcome to the website of St. Andrew's Garrison Church.  Brief details about the church including the times of services and communion can be found below.  The menu at the top also has a page, in PDF format, with details of service times.  The menu has links to pages with detailed information about the Church - its history, the career of its architect and how it acquired its current organ.  There are links to download the latest order of service (MS Word) and the hymns for the coming month (MS Word), plus brief details on activities such as badminton and the Guild.  That is followed by pictures of the church, its flags, regimental crests and stained glass and a map showing its location.  The final page lists people to contact.

As an army church, St Andrew's is not officially part of the Church of Scotland, however it has strong links with it. The minister is an ordained Church of Scotland minister, the main hymn book is Church Hymnary 4 (the Church of Scotland's hymn book) and the structure of the service is a traditional Church of Scotland one.  Therefore in addition to being a local church for those in the Aldershot area and a garrison church for a number of regiments of the British army, St Andrew's draws its congregation from a much wider area than normal, as people come from various parts of North Hampshire and West Surrey for the Church of Scotland style service.

The congregation is predominately civilian.

There is a crèche and a junior church.

Service Times

With the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Remembrance Sunday, services commence each Sunday at 11.00am and last approximately one hour.  The Remembrance Sunday service begins ten to fifteen minutes earlier ie 10.45 to 10.50am.  There also is an additional Christmas Eve service at 11.30pm and a family service on Christmas day, normally at 10am, as well as various extra services over Easter.

Communion in the Church of Scotland is not celebrated as frequently as in other denominations.  In St. Andrew's church there are normally only four Sundays each year set aside for the main communion.  These are the second Sundays in each of January, April, July and October.  (The exception being that on some years communion is celebrated on Easter Sunday either as an alternative to communion on the second Sunday in April, or in addition to the second Sunday in April.)  Additionally a small informal service of communion is often available at 12 noon on the last Sunday of each month, in the Cameron Chapel.
