Visiting and Location of Our Churches
St
Chad's Church
occupies
a prominent position deep in the southern-most part of the heart of Shrewsbury
within the loop formed by the River Severn. Its landmark distinctive tower
with cuppula can be seen from some distance. Opposite the church is a lovely
large park, "the
Quarry", sloping down to the river and including the beautiful Dingle
gardens and lake. The Quarry is the perfect site for many events, including
the world-famous Shrewsbury
Flower Show each August.Shrewsbury
is the county town for Shropshire. Driving west from Birmingham and the Midlands towards Wales, Shrewsbury is the last major town in England. Amenities in the town not only serve Shrewsbury and rural Shropshire, but also parts of mid-Wales, where there are no large towns of similar size.Finding St.Chad’s on foot
A Walking Tour of Shrewsbury map may help you to locate St.Chad’s Church, especially if you are on foot. The yellow line on this map takes you on an interesting tour of the highlights of the town, including St.Chad’s Church.Arriving by car
A Schematic Road map of Shrewsbury may help you locate St.Chads if travelling by car.Much of the town uses a (clockwise) one-way system to enable traffic to move freely round its medieval streets. If you are wanting to drive directly to St.Chad's Church, by far the easiest route is via the English Bridge. (N.B Parking at the church is very limited – see below.) On the schematic map, this is to the East of the town and brings you onto Wyle Cop, then bear left onto Town Walls (one way) to get to St.Chad’s Church opposite the Quarry Park.
The Church Office
(01743 365478) is open 10 am to 1pm, Monday to Friday, except Public Holidays.Times of opening for the Church itself are on the contact us and opening times page. If you are making a special trip to St Chad's, we recommend that you contact the church office to confirm the church is open. Whilst we make every effort to ensure St Chad's remains open as planned, unforeseen circumstances such as a funeral may prevent us from keeping the church open. Please also be aware that the church is frequently used for conferences, concerts, and other public events. Whilst many of these often do not preclude visiting in the day, they may curtail your intended visit. Please do check before you plan.
Parking.
We have a limited number of spaces in our own small car park outside St Chad’s. Pricing reflects Shrewsbury’s commercial rates. Blue Badge holders can park in the Pay & Display bays in the road outside the church for up to 3 hours without charge, provided both the Blue Badge (serial no. & expiry date face up) and the Clock are clearly on display. The public car parks closest to St.Chad's are in Baker Street and Bridge Street, (pass St.Chad's on your right, down the hill and at the bottom of the hill, turn right - parking on the left and the right)
