| Hello, I'm Steve White - thank you for visiting my Web pages. | |
| Professionally, I'm an analyst, designer, programmer and consultant in the field of object-oriented, distributed software, targeted at the Microsoft® Windows® platforms. The languages I specialise in are from the C family (i.e. C++ and C#). My preferred tools and technologies are: Visual Studio.NET®, COM, ATL, MTS, COM+, DNA and .NET. I also have experience of, and a strong interest in, the use of the Unified Modelling Language (UML) and tools such as Rational Rose and SELECT Enterprise. I've placed the latest version of my Curriculum Vitae (resumé) on the site with further details of what I've done and how I got here. |
Microsoft® Visual C++® enables developers to create the highest performance applications and components. Tight, fast, reusable code. |
| On this site are sections containing some of my my own sample source code and executables which are freely downloadable for enjoyment, use or study. The samples demonstrate my interest in ActiveX Controls and COM in general as well as multi-threaded programming and OpenGL graphics. In addition, you'll find a worked example of the use of UML analysis in one of my sample applications. |
SGI OpenGL - The industry's foundation for high-performance graphics. |
| You'll discover on this site that I'm a novelist with a published Penguin paperback, and that I'm also interested in physical fitness, piano and electric guitar playing, singing, music theory, MIDI sequencing, real-time audio waveform synthesis, and all kinds of graphical programming. |
In 1935 the 'good books cheap' philosophy of Penguin was viewed with suspicion and uncertainty by traditional publishers. Now Penguin leads the industry and is a household name. |
| But be warned - you'll also find information
about my Penguin paperback as well as unpublished (unprintable, even!) sample
chapters from some of my novels. |

| Having heard good things about them, I thought I'd give Brainbench's tests a try. I obtained a Master certification in C++ from them in January 2002 for just shy of 20 USD. More details can be found on my Brainbench Public Transcript Page. The first C++ test was marred by a communications failure and one or two answers failed to count, but Brainbench made good and gave me a re-sit. Scores were 4.31 (86%/96th percentile) and 4.55 (91%/98th percentile) respectively. |
