Stewart Design were contracted by Stonewest to carry out the detailing work for the new Granite steps and the building of the Flank walls which involved remodelling the North Wall for this key project in the heart of the City of London, which forms a part of the World Squares for All scheme, masterminded by Lord Foster.

With the main North wall requiring major alterations to accommodate the large flight of new steps leading up to the National Gallery, this project involved surveying the existing wall and producing drawings incorporating the new Cornish De Lank Granite steps together with utilising, where possible, the stone removed from this area to form the flank walls on either side of the new steps.
