'Be a St Andrew's Day Pilgrim for CHAS'

The Childrens Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) does a wonderful job supporting Scottish children who have life limiting conditions and their families. They have two childrens hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch offering respite care, crisis care, terminal care and bereavement support. They have very little access to public funds and are therefore very dependent on the generosity of the public for the 5 million plus per year to run their services.

To help this very worthy cause St Leonards Church, on behalf of all the churches in St Andrews, is organising a sponsored walk from Guardbridge to St Andrews following the old pilgrim route to the Cathedral on St Andrews Day (Monday 30th November 2009). Participants will make their own way to Guardbridge by public transport and gather at the west end of the old bridge, built over 500 years ago to allow pilgrims to cross the River Eden safely, and will be led off at 9.15am, accompanied by stewards, along the cycle track on the four mile walk to the Cathedral. On reaching the Cathedral a kind invitation has been extended by Holy Trinity Church for those pilgrims who wish to make their way thereafter to Holy Trinity to arrive during the St Andrews Day service to be welcomed as an exprssion of faith in action. Mrs Irene Ford, a voluntary fundraiser for CHAS, will hold a meeting in St Leonards Church Hall on Wednesday 18th November 2009 at 7.00pm to talk about the work of CHAS and distribute sponsor forms to which all are invited. If you would like to take part but are unable to attend the meeting please email your name and address to stlencam@btconnect.com or phone 01334 478702 (Mon. 9am-12noon; Tue.-Fri. 9.30am-12.30pm) and a sponsor form will be delivered to you.

Young people

Toddler Group
From Friday 30th October the group will meet in the Hall from 9.30 - 11.00 am. This change of timing should suit better for parents who also have children at Nursery. The cost remains at 1.50 per session.

Fusion
The joint St Leonard's/Cameron Youth Group meets on Sunday evenings at 7.30pm in St Leonard's Church hall.
Go to the 'Young People' page for more information.

Uni Girls' Group
All University girls will be made most welcome at this informal Bible Study.
Further details from Shirley Sunter, Mel or Beck via the church office.

Sunday School
Extra teachers or helpers for the Sunday School would be welcome so no one is out of church too often... no formal training is required, and teaching materials and support are provided. Please contact Jane Harrison via the church office to offer your help or find out more.

St Andrew Press

Saint Andrew Press, the Church of Scotland's publishing house, publishes a wide range of useful resources and is delighted to let you know of the arrival of the Church's one-stop online shop. This enables you to find conveniently a wide range of books that are published by the Church. Publications include books on all aspects of worship: there are prayer books, hymn books, other worship materials, books for worship leaders, for prayer groups and for individuals; books of spiritual poetry; children's books; and some books on other things you may be interested in, such as music, biography and Scottish history. There are special offers, extracts and reviews. You will find information on authors and on book-related events, and the site will continuously grow and develop to meet your needs.
The online shop can be found on "www.churchofscotland.org.uk/standrewpress" or by clicking on this link: St Andrew Press but doing so will take you out of St Leonard's website.
