Year Four Topics

English: 
Revision and extension of basic grammar principles.         Comprehension and creative writing – fiction and non-  fiction – exploring a range of genres. 
Mathematics: 
Times tables and mental maths activities. Consolidate and develop understanding of place value, shape, time, money, measurement, direction, fractions, and decimals, handling data and the four basic mathematical concepts.
Geography: Origin and Development of Settlements. Comparison of lifestyles of children living in the UK and Kenya.

Autumn Term 2007

Geography: Holidays. Climate - hot and cold.

Year Two Topics

Autumn Term 2007  
English:  
Recognition and use of verbs. Spelling patterns for adding 'ing' and 'ed' and creating plurals. Working to develop a cursive script. Punctuation. Writing stories, poems and instructions.
Mathematics:  
Place value. Reading and ordering numbers to 1000. Number bonds to 10, 20, 100. Simple fractions. Using the 4 rules of number mentally and in solving problems. Reading time to at least the quarter hour.
Science:  Forces and Movement. Electricity: circuits.  
History: Victorians: Houses.
Geography:   Island life - differences from mainland life. Geographical language.
Art: Buildings (exploring shapes and pattern). William Morris
D.T. Create moving vehicles.

Spring Term 2008  
Science: Plants and animals.
History: Florence Nightingale.
Geography: Places around the world.
Literacy: Stories and poems from other countries.
Art: Mother Nature, designer (QCA)
D.T. Making puppets.

Summer Term 2008  
Science: Grouping and changing materials. Light and shadows.
History: Victorians: Seaside.
Geography: Weather and going to the seaside.

Year One Topics

Autumn Term 2007  
English:  
Consolidating alphabet: consonants and vowels. Revise known blends and introduce extension blends, beginning blends and end blends. Poetry and rhyme. Spellings. Grammar - revise sentence structure: capital letters, full stops, finger spaces. Introduce question marks and exclamation marks. Fiction - story planning, settings, events, order and characters. Non-fiction - use and layout of texts. Reading/reading comprehension.
Mathematics:   
Revising and consolidating numbers to 10, 20 and 100. Addition/subtraction – consolidating number bonds to 10, numbers to 20, teen numbers, number bonds, adding 10 to 1 digit numbers. Ordering numbers and number names. Money. Counting in 2's. 2D/3D shapes. Time – digital and analogue: o'clock and half past. Sorting – Venn diagrams.
RE:  Babies, Initiation (learning to belong and to respond) and Gifts.
Science: Sources of light/sound. Uses and misuses of electricity.
History: Houses now and then. Firework night/Guy Fawkes. Poppy Day.
Geography:   Our journey to school. The local area.

Transition Topics

English:   
Revise and consolidate sounds/names of letters, capital and lower case letter formation. Revise known blends/introduce extension blends. Poetry, rhymes and rhyming words. Grammar: capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Stories: listen, retell, copy.
Mathematics: 
Revise and consolidate numbers to 10, then 20. Addition and subtraction - consolidating number bonds to 10. Ordering numbers and number games. Money - recognising coins. Revise 2D shapes; introduce 3D shapes. Time - digital and analogue (o'clock). Sorting - size shape and colour.
Creative Development Topic related to art and craft activities. Christmas related activities: music, painting, cutting, sticking, etc.
