Events - Past and Present
.
At Tassibee we are always busy. We run a full calendar of classes and courses all
year round, some based at our Broom Valley office and other classes are run at
different local community venues.
We regularly arrange group trips to places like Blackpool, Scarborough, Skegness
and London, but have also been as far a field as Pakistan and Egypt.
Tassibee also runs swimming and exercise classes all year round, as well as healthy
lifestyle groups, girls groups, carers groups, the list goes on and on. Examples
below.

Eid Milan Celebration
Tassibee held an Eid Celebration at Oakwood Technology College on Friday the
24th November. The event was a great success, well attended and an enjoyable
evening. The staff at Oakwood supported us brilliantly again and helped us organise
a widely enjoyed event. There were talks on charitable work for Palestine, readings
from the Qu'rain, certificate presentations, and a short play about Hajj, performed by
Sapna the young girls group, and of course at the end of the evening plenty of food
was served!

Book Lauch
Last year Tassibee applied for, and was awarded, a grant from the NLDC
(Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities) to fund a project with a group of
service users to document their stories
The book was completed this summer and a book launch was held at The Orient
Express restaurant in Masborough on Thursday 20th July, the stars of the book were
present as well as staff, volunteers and representatives from some of the many
organisations that worked in partnership with Tassibee over the years.
The book is called Experiences & Memories by the Women of Tassibee, the book is
available from Tassibees office in Broom Valley, you can contact us (using any of
the details below) to obtain copies from us. The book is free of charge, but donations
are always welcome !

Fundraiser At Oakwood on 7th January
Tassibee staff and volunteers, who consist of a variety of cultures and back
grounds, organised an evening dinner event at Oakwood Technology College on
the 7th of January to raise fund to help victims of the recent earthquake in
Pakistan, in particular to buy wheelchairs for women injured in the disaster.
Suitable wheelchairs cost approx £180 each.
The women only event included a 3 course meal and activities such as:
· 2 Fashion Shows (one of young girls clothes, the other of adult clothes)
· Clothes and jewellery stalls
· Henna Painting
· Kids Games
· Guest Speakers
· Music & comedy shows
· An auction of brand new clothes donated for the cause.
With the Christmas holiday the event was arranged and publicised at rather short
notice, but the tickets still all sold out well in advance of the day attracting a
diverse audience, some of whom travelled a long way to attend the event. As a
result the venue was very busy and the capacity crowd responded well to all the
arranged activities, and particularly appreciated a comedy sketch about an Asian
Chat Show.
Over £5,000 was raised on the day and donations are still coming in. Tassibee
would like to thank everyone who gave time and money to this cause.
Photographs of the event have been added to the Photo page of this site.

As well as providing courses we also organise day trips, attend events and
arrange our own activity days.
Tassibee had a stall at the Rotherham Show again this year and dispite the bad
weather, we still managed to raise a respectable sum (for our yet-to-be-chosen
charity) through selling donated good and henna painting.
Our Sapna Young Girls Group have had a few trips including a trip to Drayton Manor
Theme Park at the end of August, which was enjoyed by all that went.
Chief Executive, Dr Fairfield, and Chairman of the Doncaster and South Humber
Healthcare NHS Trust, Madeleine Keyworth, visited Tassibee on 23rd September
for a question and answer session with service users and carers, the visit was well
recieved and very sucessful with both guests and members learning a lot from the
day. Click
Here for Press Release prepared for that event.
We arranged a Family Fun Day at Herringthorpe Playing Fields in 2004 to raise
money for the Children of Palestine, which was very successful, as we raised a very
respectable sum for the charity and everyone had fun.
