Tassibee Produces a Book
Last year Tassibee applied for, and was awarded, a grant from the NLDC
(Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities) to fund a project with a group of
service users to document their stories With the help of RMBC Social Work
Placement Student, Joanne Hacking and Tassibee staff and volunteers the Tassibee
services users were helped to document their lives and experiences, both in their
country of birth and in Rotherham.
The result is an eye opening, heart warming, colourful book that gives a glimpse into
the lives of some of Rotherhams most isolated women, the books contains 16 short
stories, printed in both English and Urdu.
The book is called Experiences & Memories by the Women of Tassibee, the book is
available from Tassibees office in Broom Valley, you can contact us (using any of
the details below) to obtain copies from us. The book is free of charge, but donations
are always welcome !

Here is some extra info about the Friday Sessions (held at the Unity Centre):
The session is attended by 60+ women each week and remains at the heart of
Tassibee as an organisation. In 2000 in order to accommodate the different
activities that take place, the session was extended to 3 hours. A session typically
includes the following activities:
-
Discussion session
-
Information giving
-
Planning session
-
Prayers
-
Lunch and socialising
The main roles of the session are now:
-
To provide a supportive and culturally acceptable meeting place for Asian
women of all ages, including an opportunity to perform Friday prayers in an
appropriate communal setting
-
To provide a safe, culturally appropriate and socially acceptable route for new
women to access other Tassibee activities
-
To provide opportunities for Muslim Asian women to engage in decision
making, take on volunteering and leadership roles and to act as role models
for other women
-
To provide a forum where women can explore their identities as Asian Muslims
living in Rotherham and learn more about their religion and culture
-
To provide a forum where other Tassibee activities are regularly discussed,
feedback sought and ideas for new activities generated
-
To provide a forum where all major Tassibee decisions are discussed and the
organisation is held accountable to its membership
-
To provide a forum where the Tassibee membership can meet and question
others involved in the organisation including Tassibee staff, advisory
management
board members, representatives of partner organisations and funders
...
