The reference to four countries in the title of the talk indicates Britain, Cyprus, Greece and Turkey, countries which are currently bound together both in respect of Cyprus and in respect of Turkey's EU vocation.
An introductory segment of the talk concerns the development of Greco-Turkish relations. A second segment concerns Turkey's relationship with the EU and the very specific roles Britain, Greece and Cyprus play in this. A third segment concerns recent developments in Cyprus itself and the way prospects for a settlement relate to current (and serious) internal tensions in Ankara.
The speaker: Costa Carras, born and educated in Britain, has lived in Athens since 1997. He was a founding member of Friends of Cyprus in 1974, and remains a member of its Committee. He is a founding member of the Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe www.cdsee.org and the Board member responsible for its Joint History Project. He is the longest serving Vice President of Europa Nostra, the federation of European heritage organisations www.europanostra.org . He has been since 1998, with Ustun Erguder, the Coordinator of the Greek Turkish Forum - www.turkishgreeksynergy.net
