Cyprus week

 

Presented by Theatro Technis in association with the "National Federation of Cypriots in Great Britain" www.cypriotfederation.org.uk to coincide with the 36th Anniversary of the Greek Junta Coup and the Turkish Invasion, the Ethnic cleansing of 200,000 Greek Cypriots and occupation of 37% the Republic of Cyprus. This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus.

Tuesday 13th July 2010:

"Raising of the Cyprus and EU Flags at Theatro Technis"


An exhibition of the Archives of Theatro Technis and of the Cypriot community in Camden and the booklet Building on the Foundations funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Unity Theatre Trust.
Speeches about the significance of the raising of the flag of the Republic of Cyprus at Theatro Technis, and about the long-standing Cyprus Week. Music by long-time friend of Theatro Technis, Ricardo Curbello, playing the harp, poetry and EKA choir, and the Harpist Richardo Curbello, followed by poetry by Vasilis Panayi and Lucy Panteli.

British Parliamentarians in association with the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK addressed an invited audience at the newly elected British Parliament at the House of Commons. The meeting heard contributions by Peter Droussiotis, President of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK and Parliamentarians.

The Cyprus Centre of the London Metropolitan University in association with EPISTEME, the Association of Cypriot Professionals, under trhe auspices of the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK held a one day conference - Cyprus 50 Years of Independence, Achievements and Challenges

The Cyprus Centre of the London Metropolitan University in association with the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK hosted the Cyprus Lecture, by Cyprus Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou, who spoke about "The Need for a solution to the Cyprus Problem".
