Five more different  walks available at the pub (sorry not to take away)

The Black Horse, Nuthurst,  Walk No. 1

Village signposted off the A281 south east of Horsham at Monks Gate.

Approx. distance of walk: 4 miles. O.S. Map No. 187 TQ 193/263.

Parking is limited at the pub although there are lay-bys in the road.

An enjoyable, easy going walk mostly through woods and across farm land.

  1. Turn left from the pub, walk up the hill and take the first turning on the left, the bridleway is signed. Make your way up past the nursery taking the left junction at the top and then the bridleway on the right. Go up the drive, through the yard, out on to the track and take the left fork. Make your way up the track turning right before you reach the gate, past. a hay barn and under the high voltage cables. Keep walking ahead until you reach a five way junction and then take the left fork, ignore the immediate path on the left.
  2. walk01The track climbs steadily through woods.  On the brow of the hill bear left then right keeping straight ahead. Walk down the hill through the woods, and after about fifty yards, turn right on to the track. After a couple of hundred yards turn left on to another track, cross the stream and turn right through the woods, keeping the stream on your right. In fifty yards take the left track up through the woods. Ignore the path on the right but keep straight ahead up towards the brow.  Continue straight ahead at the footpath sign towards the houses.  Cross the stile in the bottom left-hand corner of the field and follow the path, out into the road and turn right.
  3. Cross over and go down the track on the right-hand side of the black and white house, over the stile beside the gate, into the field and up to the stile in the top right-hand corner.  Continue ahead, over one more stile, out on to the track and turn left. Ignoring the paths left and right, pass under the high voltage cables and up the rise. When you eventually reach the junction turn left on to the metalled road walking through Sedgewick Park. Take the next track on the left pass through the gates, down through the woods, through the gate and on to the metalled road back to the pub.
