Reading Parties and Seminars
Throughout the academic year The Burn is occupied by working groups from universities, colleges and schools. Additional accommodation may be available, at short notice, if parties do not take up all the accommodation, for mid-week or weekend breaks.
Holidays
Individuals and families are welcome for holidays at any time, but the most usual time for them to come is in the summer, at Easter and at Christmas, when the universities are on holiday. Children of all ages are welcome. Members of Goodenough College who feel like a break from London are always welcome to book the two twin-bedded rooms allocated for their use.
Leisure Activities
Tennis, putting, croquet and bowls can be played in the grounds, with snooker, pool, darts and table tennis in the indoor games room. Golf is available at Edzell Golf Course, only 1 1/2 miles away. There are numerous other Golf courses within easy reach and the championship courses at St Andrews and Carnoustie can be reached by car within an hour. Equipment for all games is available at The Burn. The Burn is an ideal base for visiting the famous Castles of Mar (Castles Fraser, Drum, Crathes and Balmoral on Royal Deeside - only half an hour away by car over the picturesque Cairn O'Mounth road). Glamis Castle is also very close, as is Edzell Castle, only two miles away. Days on the unspoilt and uncrowded beaches at the holiday resorts of Montrose, Stonehaven and Arbroath are highly recommended to relax and unwind.
