John Whitehead works in a variety of media to create 3D sculptures on various themes. Many are passive but others have internal lighting or slowly changing images controlled by electronics.
THE PHOTOSHOOT 2013
In The Photoshoot a veneer tiled floor leads past a discarded bikini (carved yew) to a distant scene painted on the rear panel in acrylics and seen through windows with carved and stained curtains. The intricate camera, only 9cm high, is from carved yew, beech and brass.
MODEL 2 2016
The main figure here is in sycamore with stained glass. The box has internal LED lighting and runs from a low-power 12V mains adaptor.

MODEL 1 1991
In this piece the blue semicircles slide on the diagonal bars as the disc (upper right) rotates through 180 degrees. As the two halves separate linkages push open the red acrylic sections. A complete cycle takes 3 hours and the incremental changes of form are too small to see. Internal LED illumination can be switched off independently. Power is from a mains low voltage adaptor.
