Will a Survey Save Me Money?

In most cases - yes!

Most surveys normally reveal defects and identify items of required maintenance, or provide an indication that concealed and hidden defects may exist. Knowledge of potential problems enables a property purchaser to obtain estimates for the cost of remedying defects and therefore be more informed as to the total overall cost of the proposed purchase. The vendor is often completely unaware that defects exist and it is fairly routine in property transactions for a vendor and purchaser to re-negotiate the purchase price to reflect problems which have arisen or may be reasonably anticipated. In any event, it is important for any purchaser to be aware of any problems and costs before entering into a contract to purchase a property, rather than experiencing an unpleasant surprise after the event.

If no problems are highlighted by the survey, the purchaser does at least have the comfort of proceeding with the purchase with renewed confidence.
