el sombrero

'El sombrero' (the Mexican Hat) is 'the' water feature in the garden and the ultimate in bird baths! The former pig trough has had its drainage holes plugged, been partially filled with gravel and is topped up daily with water.

It measures nearly three feet across and the central dome is encircled by a foot wide moat. The water is about four inches at the deepest point.

The birds simply love it! Everything drinks and bathes in it - Tree Sparrows, Turtle Doves, Red-legged Partridges and Pheasants.
