Regular socialites will no doubt keep abreast of the newest and hippest places to drink of an evening, but there's one ultra-cool watering hole that has yet to be discovered by the drinking cognoscenti. On the corner of Cleveland Street is one of a new breed of bar appearing all over cities and towns in the UK.
Wise to the fact that weekend drinkers are becoming more discerning and, thanks to a bouyant ecomony and greater disposable income, don't mind dodging the cheap and cheerfulness of the wetherspoons of the world in favour of the more up-market (yet still not over-priced) establishment.

Fiercely independent and achingly contemporary, this two-floor bar is owned by a pair of local entrepreneurs who have spared no expense in bringing modern city chic to small town Yorkshire. The ethos of independence is also encouraged in the clientele; seating throughout is adaptive and comfortable while the décor instils a sense of cosy detachment, neutral but inviting and very, very 'now'.

But it's not all about the colour of the walls and the tread of the floor. Tonik offers an extremely varied selection of drinks, from the more unusual collection of spirits and liquers, to leading brands and speciality beers, all at prices that won't scare you off. Throw in live DJ's 5 nights per week, state-of-the-art Bose directional sound system, plasma screens throughout and remotely and independently controlled lighting, and you may just have the Next Big Thing on your hands.
Need more convincing? Tonik also has an extensive and exquisite menu of hot and cold food, all prepared and cooked on-site by the resident chef. The range is simple and non-threatening but with a twist and freshness lacking in many such places nowadays (the pies in particular are highly recommended and the home-made lasagne is to die for!)

The room on the upper floor also doubles as a function suite that can be hired out free of charge (yes, you read that right, FREE of charge) and catering can be provided. Even this has been thought out and meticulously planned. Function rooms are usually just spare rooms in which bar managers cram in trestle tables, plastic chairs and temporary bars to cash in on the growing number of people hosting parties in pubs. Not so in Tonik. The room is, if anything, even more chic than its downstairs counterpart. It is properly furnished with a fully stocked bar and feels more like a private room in one of the more discreet clubs in Mayfair or South Kensington.
The owners of Tonik are rightly proud of their independence and are keen to promote their idea of flexibility in the way they run the bar. Any suggestions will be heard and considered, from theme nights to football parties, private functions to live music.
Tonik is a very apt name for this new and exciting bar, more so given Doncaster's promising future. The name suggests a refreshing boost to aded drinkers and heralds a new era in town center bars.
Long may it prosper.'
