| Jackie Oates and Belinda O’Hooley met as part of award winning folk band Rachel Unthank & the Winterset. Teaming up with velvet voiced sidekick Heidi Tidow, they combine well crafted songs, exquisite harmonies with a touch of theatricality and a good deal of audience banter. Rising folk star Jackie Oates has been described as one of the finest singers and musicians on the current folk scene. Steve’s guest this month is the renowned French singer Flossie Malavialle, who started in bands while at University in Montpellier. These were mainly 'orchestres de varieties' - where the aim was to entertain people and get them dancing all night long! Flossie was influenced by everything from Edith Piaf to jazz, rock 'n' roll, funk, soul and country etc. . . much of which shows in her songs. Since 2002 Flossie has been on the English folk circuit playing clubs and festivals with her beloved Gibson J150. |

Becks and the Bullets with special guest Jon Gomm |
A great mix of ska, pop, jazz, rock and folkie lyrics, Becks and the Bullets also bring a heady mix of stage and TV acting experience to produce a memorable sound and vision performance. . . and a wild imagination; listen to this: “If Blondie had kids to Ian Dury and the Blockheads and those kids grew up in Sheffield next door to Pulp until Ian cheated on Debs and ran off to Jamaica with Soul II Soul leaving Blondie to join a travelling hippy circus and those kids formed a band the band would probably sound like . . . . Becks and the Bullets.” |

Cabaret Heaven with Topping and Butch & Madam Laycock and her Dabeno Pleasures |
Topping and Butch are here to present their extended show "Take it up the octave!" These guys have won a bucketful of awards for their west end and Edinburgh shows and have been described by the Scotsman as "cabaret at its absolute best". You might guess that there's a bit of queer campery involved but their show is also packed with topical political satire and comic musicianship of the highest order. We've had to work pretty hard to get them here so don't miss them at the last cabaret till September. They are supported by the wonderful Madam Laycock and her Dabeno Pleasures. This gypsy performance band of wild women will take you on a fantastic journey. Are you ready for the ride? Plus Peggy and Bernard with a the game show that couldn't be allowed on telly and dancing with splendid DJs. |
