Saturday December 1st 9.30pm
Trans-Global Underground
£12.00
Transglobal Underground had to happen. They refused to accept that dance music had to be four to the floor house. They refused to accept that something called ‘World Music’ ever existed. They slowed down hip hop and sped up dub. They sang in whatever language they felt like singing in. They were DJs but they played live. It all seems so obvious now. It has been called world-fusion and ethno-techno . . . call it what you like, you’ll be dancing throughout.

Radical Film Club: The Revolution Will Not                               Be Televised
£2.00
Hugo Chavez was elected President of Venezuela in 1998. His radical brand of politics made him an enemy of the Government of the United States, as he used Venezuela's oil resources to help the poor and to bring aid to blockaded Cuba. He was removed from office in a US-inspired coup. Two days later he was back in power thanks to a groundswell of protest from Venezuela's people. The short-lived coup and return to power were caught on film by a camera crew. Chavez is credited by the Wall Street Journal with "making Venezuela Washington's biggest headache after the old stand-by, Cuba".

Thursday December 20th 8.30pm
Winter Festival Party for Free Gaza: Break the Siege
£5.00 / £4.00

Sketch: (Maggie Boyle, Gary Boyle and Dave Bowie)

An exuberant cocktail of traditional and contemporary folk, with a splash of jazz. Maggie’s voice brings the term angelic back down to earth, where it belongs, on the stage at the trades with Gary’s jazz fusion guitar and Dave’s soulful bass side by side blending the story in the song and the song in the story of our lives.
Clive Russell: Playing a hybrid confection of Tees Delta blues with country written right through it. "Songs like tiny movies". Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Bookworms: Pete is a rational irrationalist lyricist that has a lump hammer and a cat’s feather to coax out the contradictions of modernity and raise an odd smile Sam’s guitar drives the energy while Jess’ Trombone playing touches such a tender spot.
Captain Hotknives: A folk punk surrealist with the warmth and wit of Eddie Izzard, the conviction of Mark Thomas and the Charisma of Caruso.
FreeGaza.org Breaking the Siege: These artists are donating their labours to raise money to get humanitarian aid to Gaza. The World Food Program warned that Gaza faces imminent failure of flour, rice, oil and other essential supplies, unless Israel opens the borders. Just as importantly, the Break the Siege trip to Gaza demands access for humanitarian workers, international observers, independent journalists and friends and relatives of Palestinians.

We need to support those people under siege from the Colonial Israeli Occupying forces by coming to the gig and, maybe getting involved with the campaigns to help with the people of Palestine’s liberation.
