This night has been delivering proper sound system roots rock reggae for over a decade now. Serious music and a friendly atmosphere is the C4 philosophy. Always a massive turnout from bass culture regulars and a healthy mix of new faces. check in early to avoid the queuing up. Check em' out at http://www.myspace.com/chapter4bassculture

Steve Tilston's Trades Roots with Kirsty McGee & Mat Martin

Steve always brings us the best. This month its Kirsty McGee, a maker of delicate yet stubborn songs, an instinctive traveller, a human scrapbook. Kirsty McGee’s songs show a depth and sensitivity, coupled with a dark, wry sense of humour that have earned her national daytime radio airplay and two BBC folk award nominations, not to mention a host of notable fans and collaborators such as Boo Hewerdine, Karine Polwart and Mike West. Her ‘vaudebilly’ style combines traditional American music and instruments with a 1920s style sense of cabaret.

Emily Barker & the Red Clay Halo

Australian singer songwriter Emily Barker released her second album, Despite The Snow, just before Christmas. Emily and her all-female band The Red Clay Halo – Anna Jenkins (violin), Jo Silverston (cello) and Gill Sandell (accordion / flute) will be playing tracks from this and previous work. Hailing from Bridgetown in Western Australia, Emily first entered the UK music scene via the Cambridge Folk Festival, where she appeared with guitarist Rob Jackson (Boo Hewerdine) in 2002. They went on to form “the-low-country”, who released 2 albums, and enjoyed several plays on John Peel’s show. In October 2005, Emily won both Country Song Of The Year and Regional Song Of The Year at the prestigious Annual West Australian Music Songwriting Awards. Also in this year, she sang in place of Stephanie Arlene with The Arlenes on their UK tour. November 2008 saw the track Nostalgia used as title & end credits music for Wallander, a major new drama adaptation for BBC One. YOU may have seen them at Glastonbury (Avalon Stage), Cambridge Folk Festival and the Big Session.

The Mental Elf Collective present Más Y Más and Big Hand
Equinox Greetings from Mental Elf, who have the privilege to present two fantastic bands and a dj for your aural pleasure. First up we have the internationally renowned Mas y Mas an explosive trio, delivering a message of unity, sensuality and fiesta. The music is an irresistible meeting of Latino, Flamenco and Afro-cuban influences, woven together by driving dance rhythms and rich vocal harmonies. Also Scottish skasters Big Hand. With their unique blend of Zorbic ska and energetic/exuberant live
shows, they are ready to transcend their cult underground status and bring their manic hypnotic gravity defying antics to the unsuspecting masses of Hebden Bridge. As if that wasn’t enough, we have the only female dj we know with her own fashion label, Technodolly, sprinkling her elfish sounds
throughout the night. So come on down and be reminded of the rosemary scented evenings of the summer. Look out for the donations cafe (ve/gf) with a delightful array of cakes, flapjacks, snacks and brews.

Wheeler Street
Frequently described as ‘a young Levellers’, Wheeler Street show a passion for folk music and produces an explosion of energy when performing that leaves audiences clamouring for more. All seven have played music from an early age, acquiring instrumental skills that belie their ages and covering a breadth of instruments that include fiddle, guitar, bass, melodeon, whistle, mandolin, concertina, drums, bouzouki and voice, with a particular skill for close harmony. Though young, some band members have known each other and played music together for up to a decade. Others come from families where folk music is part of their everyday lives, and some have performed in family folk bands for several years. The result is something undeniably youthful with an energy which is utterly infectious yet is rooted in some of the oldest songs of England, carefully collected by the band from older family members and through trips to Cecil Sharp House in London, the national depository for all things folk. It’s all brought back to life with their own punkish self-confidence and fearless arena-rock abandon, and make it their own. Wheeler Street

Cabaret Heaven with Matt Barnard and the Last Chance Saloon Band
Yee-hah! It's a hoedown special to celebrate the new America. Sadly Barack couldn't make it but we do have some great comedy acts and a pile of stetsons! Sheriff Matt Barnard presents his awesome award-winning act filled with beer, knives and neo-classical art. From Covent Garden to international festivals he's an act not to be missed. The Last Chance Saloon Band treat the wild west as a place to be chewed up and spat out in a new form; this is barndancing with a difference. Yes, there's a fiddle and sometimes even a caller, but you could be dancing to hillbilly YMCA as likely as Hank Williams. Guaranteed to get your bootheels clicking. We've also got hanging judge Ronald Arthur Dewhirst with his laconic and inspired observations on life and Peggy Lee leads a decidedly fruity gunfight. Dress for the night in your best stetson, boots and western gear; prizes for the best dressed. Matt Barnard
