| The Mental Elf Collective present the Daevid Allen and the Magick Brothers | ||
| The elves have really done it this time, they will be creating pixie mayhem with the man from Gong, Daevid Allen and his band the Magick Brothers. Magick Brothers comprise of Daevid Allen (Gong,etc. . .) on acoustic guitar, glissando guitar and vocals, Graham Clarke (Gongmaison) on violin and guitar and Mark Robson (Kangaroo Moon) on keyboards, didgeridoo, flute, irish whistle and vocals. Joining the elves at the beginning of their tour this psychedelic trio will be mesmerising with whimsical weirdness refreshing your ears with an experience they call musical osmosis. Supplying the sounds at the beginning of the evening are underground roots Dj's, Pat Trash and Red J (Trailer Trash), doing a back to back session. Coming through on radio gnome, a short half-hour interlude with Bez 23 (Peak Records). Then the last act of the night, our homegrown boys [tetchi] with live drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals. Served on a bed of psychedelic squidge, their music can go from lazy sunday, to friday-night-mashup in the time it takes to peel an egg! And talking of food don't forget the delicious selection of cakes (ve/gf) for donations. The message from the pot head pixies is to have a cup of tea, have another one at the flying teapot cafe. |

| Man | ||
| Man started off at the end of the 60s, called it a day towards the end of the 70s, then in the early 80s realised they could do nothing better than get together again. They have been through more line-ups than you can shake a stick at, with various members coming and going at a rate which gives rock genealogist Pete Frame nightmares. Barring “musical differences”, the line-up will include Martin Ace on bass, and keyboardist Phil Ryan. Man defy categorization - guitar driven hard rock? Well, yes, but they still have heavy influences from their early psychedelic era – bluesy, at times soulful. Impossible to sum up. Except that they are very, very good. |

| Trades Club Question Time: The Great Climate Swoop | ||
| Climate Camp Activists are calling for mass civil disobedience to blockade Ratcliffe on Soar coal fired power station in Nottingham on 17/18 October. E.oN, the owners of Ratcliffe, are pushing ahead with plans to build the first new coal fired power stations in 30 years. Whilst telling the population to reduce its carbon footprint the UK government is doing everything it can to help its friends in business enlarge its profit margin. We have just seen how much of our future our government is willing to stake on propping up the finance and business community. It is exactly this manipulation of power that is taking us into climate crisis. Come and find out more about taking part in mass civil disobedience from the speakers from The Great Climate Swoop. |

| Daz 'n' Dave’s Disco presents Skavolution | ||
| "You hum it, we'll Ska it". That's the motto of this eccentric and anarchic troupe. From the opening bar, the expectant crowd instantly knows that a night with Skavolution is going to involve some serious dancing. They have built on the traditional brass and drums model of Jamaican ska, adding more than a few custom features - banjo, sousaphone, megaphones and accordion. Skavolution’s unique appeal comes from classic tunes (Swan Lake, Ring of Fire, The Hall of the Mountain King) cleverly arranged into exceptionally imaginative medleys combined with an unstoppable rhythm section. Just don't forget your dancing shoes. |

| John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett | ||
| Arriving on the back of punk rock, John Otway’s first single "Really Free" reached number 27 in the singles chart. It would be his greatest success for some time. His first album, recorded with Wild Willy Barrett sold only fitfully. The follow-up singles fared no better. Despite poor record sales, his live audience remained loyal, due to Otway's manic energy and the very real possibility of physical injury during renditions of songs such as "Headbutts". Asked what he wanted for his 50th birthday, he requested "a second hit". A concerted drive saw "Bunsen Burner" reach number 9 in the UK singles charts in 2002, and earned Otway an appearance on Top of the Pops. Wild Willy Barrett is an English folk singer, known for his wit and dry humour onstage, his virtuoso fiddle playing, his ability with a great number of stringed instruments, and playing slide guitar with a whole raw egg. |

| Magical Sounds presents a Bearded Theory festival benefit featuring very special guests - Banco de Gaia | ||
| Inspired by late '80s acid house explosion, Toby Marks took quite a different spin on electronica with his recordings as Banco de Gaia, introducing elements of Eastern and Arabic music, sampling similarly exotic sources, and tying the whole to ambient-dub rhythms. After an early career which included a stint as the drummer in a heavy metal band and playing Beatles covers for tourists in Portugal, Marks began Banco De Gaia as a solo project producing a variety of dance and chill-out music. He is appearing at the Trades for the first time, with a new album, “Memories Dreams Reflections”, and plays the Trades Club for the first time as a benefit for the charity fundraising Bearded Theory festival, which was hit by a Tornado earlier in the year. Joining us for the evening will be the MagicLantern crew providing music and visual delights. This is not to be missed. |

| Seize The Day | ||
| Seize The Day is a radical English acoustic band with global roots, who write songs to celebrate, inspire and support the liberation of life. Whatever needs to change or be defended, they will sing to make you laugh about it, cry about it, dance about it – maybe even inspire you to believe that you can do something about it. The band grew out of the Road Protest Movement in 1996. Since then the line-up has expanded and gone through many incarnations. They have played major festivals – Cambridge, Glastonbury, the Big Chill, and the Big Green Gathering, and a host of smaller ones. But you’re just as likely to meet them at your nearest frontline protest, whether it’s against GM crops, or war, or fossil fuels. Come to be entertained and energised. |
