Housing Market Renewal: What Happens Next?
It is unlikely that there will be any major changes to the physical environment of Kirkholt in the next two years. Before any firm proposals are developed there are a few steps that need to be taken.
What do you think?
It's important that you give your views on these Ideas for Change. We have arranged a series of meetings and exhibitions across Kirkholt to give residents the opportunity to come and discuss the proposals. Details of events will be posted out in the New Year.
For those households who have been informed their property is within a potential development area, there was an opportunity to discuss the proposals face-to-face.
Council approval
Once local people have had an opportunity to comment on proposals, Rochdale Council will want to formally consider the Ideas for Change and hopefully give approval to continue to work with local people to develop the key ideas further.
Development partner
Once agreement has been reached on which Ideas for Change have the most potential, the process to appoint a development partner will begin. This partner is likely to be a company that builds new homes. The proposals are very important, impacting on the local community and requiring millions of pounds of investment, so the selection process must ensure that residents' views are taken on board and value for money is achieved.
Starting work
Once the development partner has been appointed a business plan for turning the Ideas for Change vision into a plan of action will be developed. This will mean that in the future all partners would work together to make sure that the issues identified by local people as essential to transforming Kirkholt, are delivered within whatever funding is available from the private sector developer, Housing Market Renewal and other partners.
