Team Performances 2007-08

Birmingham League

Division 1 have finished mid-table, with a creditable 14 points from 24. Division 2A started well, but finished 7th, after losing a number of games later in the season. They did reach the Homer final, but lost (see below). The 2B team did well to avoid relegation and drew most of their matches. Division 5 have at least a play-off for the championship and are promoted. Division 6 finished 4th, a good performance with limited resources.

The club hosted the Birmingham & District League's annual Lightning Team Tournament in March. Over 60 players competed in 3 sections, in games played at 10 seconds per move. Olton A finished second in section A, while the B team were fifth. The C team finished last in section B, but a good time was had by all.

Leamington League

The Division 1A team finished 3rd, with 19 points from 16 matches. The B team were just one point behind. The Division 2C team were third with 17 points from 28.

Second Team reach Homer Trophy Final

The Birmingham League Division 2A have made it through to the Homer Plate Final. They beat two Division 3 sides and a Division 2 side on the way and met another team from this division in the last round. Unfortunately, Stourbridge 2 were too strong on the night.

Open Cup Team win Leamington League Cup Final

The Open cup team have won the Knockout Trophy in the Leamington League finals, which took place at Leamington on Tuesday 29th April. They beat Nuneaton 3½-1½ after wins from Alan Lloyd and Mark Cundy and draws from Phil Holt on top board, Richard Smith and Rob Wallman. Mark's game is believed to have been finished with a particularly nice Queen sacrifice.
