CHRISTMAS EVE 2008 The now traditional 'Committee Bingo' took place on Christmas eve this year. The Entertainments Committee dressed up for the occasion and although the theme of the evening was Jack & the Beanstalk, there were a number of other characters on show. There was again a good crowd on the night and extra tables had to be brought out. Some of the members attended in fancy dress, which added to the atmosphere. Once the bingo books had been sold, the committee retired to put their costumes on. They emerged to applause, which was well-deserved, given how hot it was inside the costumes. They included Shrek, a cat and an axeman. The evening was compared, ably as ever, by Colin Hennessey. The winners of bingo lines and houses were give the chance to win an additional prize. These ranged from booby prizes, to Chocolates and bottles to electrical goods. Top prize was a 19" flat screen TV. Winners had to choose a golden egg and each one represented a prize. In addition to the bingo, there were the normal Psychic bingo and Mini-tote. There was a small charge on the door for three cash prizes, which raised £120 for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Many of the members took the opportunity to exchange Christmas cards and gifts. It was a great night for everyone who attended and to many, the highlight of the year. |
