6 GREAT NEW RELEASES!

#  VICTORIA BOURNE & ENDGAME - ENCOUNTERS (Auricle AMCDR 183) CDR £7.00 - We'd hit it off so many times in various combinations at Quadelectronic that it was inevitable that we'd have to get it together and record an album. So, immerse yourself in the weird world of Endgame fronted by the extraordinary voice of Victoria Bourne, a one-off event to savour! © 2012.

review - Ever talented in whatever field, Victoria Bourne is a vocalist (and multi-instrumentalist) with an incredible range, and here she pits her vocals talents against Endgame for unique results. After having worked before in many different incarnations at Quadelectronic the spark of invention was already ignited, and this was almost certain to have been a classic in the making. But, who would have expected it to turn out like this? The sessions turned out to be like a succession of vignette ideas, each fully formed and able to stand alone, moving from cosmic one moment to totally bizarre the next, and sometimes to the totally unfathomable. Often one will be reminded of the likes of Ventricle label artists like Mauve Sideshow, and there's certainly many a nod in the direction of Nurse With Wound, HNAS, et al, with Victoria also changing faces as diverse as from Lady June to Diamanda Galas. This schizophrenic and challenging album is rounded of with a huge bonus, a live performance at The Shed a few months earlier.

#  ENDGAME - TREMORS (Auricle AMCDR 187) CDR £7.00 - A selection of more serious major works from the "Alles Über Schizophrene?" era of Endgame sessions, all originally noted as: possible 2CD piece? - i.e. what might have been the sequel to "Khimaira", if we'd had the money to invest in a 2CD set! Instead these choice pieces waited on the back-burner for a decade, almost forgotten until now. © 2012.

#  EXTREMITIES - CAULDRON (Auricle AMCDR 184) CDR £7.00 - The cauldron bubbles, the music cooks! Generally this simmers, with steam & sonic scents wafting through the air, & occasionally the pot boils over. As ever Extremities run the whole gammut of everything imaginable, yet hold it all together in a brew that could rarely be anyone else! © 2012.

#  RUIN - THE KNITTER - A new local talent, Ruin are generally a kind of new-wavey bluesy/heavy outfit, who've always had the talent for "freaking out" but never quite got a cohesive album together before. So, intentionally they decided to drop any actual compositions or songs and go for a purely inventive, spirited set of grooves topped with solos and off-kilter electronics. Just 3 big pieces "The Knitter" reminds me of some Faust jams inevitably, although it's closer to the early Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft, bits of Chrome, Public Image et al., but kind of Krautrocky, extended, and hints of This Heat too. Ruin though are not a mish-mash, and not unlike the great Rancid Poultry, they hone their influences into something that is their own. see general CD section!

#  SINE WAVE - ZEITMASCHINE - Third instalment by this talented multi-instrumental wiz, this time with just 4 big works. With influences ranging from early Tangerine Dream through to King Crimson, this all instrumental blend of synths, guitars and Mellotron is nigh-on a classic if you ask me. see general CD section!

#  ZIRCON & THE BURNING BRAINS - DISSECTING HUMAN LIFE (Auricle AMACDR 017) CDR £7.00 - In an attempt to complete the ZBB story I delved into some boxes of old tapes & found some lost & forgotten gems. Some of these were marked "not to be used" due to crackles, noise &/or glitches - impossible to repair at the time, but relatively easy to correct with today's digital editing technology. The resulting collection is a diverse tour through many ZBB styles, adding up to an engaging set of rarities from the "Cortex" & "Out Of The Ashes" sessions. © 2012.

RECENT!

ENDGAME - REMOTE VIEWING (Auricle AMCDR 176) CDR £7.00 - The idea at this session was to try some new formulas & ideas for playing live, yet what we did was pretty much refocus a new wider array of sounds into typical quintessential Endgame. Or were we all remote viewing?

DAVID HINDMARCH - THE DEVIL'S WAVE (AMCDR 179) CDR £7.00 - Excellent electroacoustic music, inspired by the likes of Francois Bayle, Trevor Wishart, etc. Amazing for a blind musician, he studied at BEAST in Birmingham, and passed with honors!

DAVID POWELL - STICK THE FORK IN YOUR EYE, WE SHALL BE GLAD TO EAT OURSELVES (Auricle AMCDR 180/181) 2CDR £12.00 - This album's lengthy title is a dedication to Danish surreal artist Wilhelm Freddie, a bizarre little-known Dali-esque talent. Dave lists a whole plethora of influences, although I was instantly reminded of the early groundbreaking works of Deuter, with equal doses of Stephan Micus & Terry Riley thrown into the mix. Of course there are many things you'll hear totally unique to David Powell, particularly his use of processing, with some really strange fuzz & modulation processing. Numbered edition of 36 copies, each with a unique hand painted insert!

TRIAX - ELEMENTS (Auricle AMCDR 177/8) 2CDR £12.00 - Triax #29 (recorded 24/10/2010). Just 4 big surreal mind movies, audio paintings, sonic journeys - call them what you will - that each flow & develop through many changes. A lot of "musical" guitar from Dave on this one, and "melodic" organ/synth/mellotron from Alan, all counterpointing Steve's audioscape work, fleshing out the Triax you may know with a lot that you've never heard before. Think "Spiral Insana" era NWW, very early Klaus Schulze, Bewrnard Parmegiani, François Bayle, Italian experimentalists, etc. All that sometimes, none of that on occasions (going places even we've never heard before). Typical Triax then?

TRIAX - GOTHIC (Auricle AMCDR 182) CDR £7.00 - Whilst mixing this down, I soon became aware that this music had the feel of some bizarre horror film soundtrack. The first pointer was the surprisingly Alessandro Alessandroni like fuzz/distortion/wah guitar of Dave Powell featured on 2 tracks. There's also a recurring theme in parts, a few vignettes that pass like incoherent dreams. Of course it would have to be a very weird film to sport a soundtrack like this, not least the powerful near-on 22 minute "Song Of The Neurons" that kind of feels like a hybrid of "Cyborg" era Klaus Schulze & rasping raw Faust.

ENDGAME - CRYPTIC TRIPTYCH (Auricle AMCDR 016) CDR £7.00 - Involving 2 interlocking triptychs, this is a cleverly interwoven work of themes, diversions & reprises, centred largely on fuzzed guitars & electronics, with a plethora of strange sounds.

ENDGAME - TOXIC - DO NOT OPEN! (Auricle AMCDR 030) CDR £7.00 - Dare you open the box? The music is vivid, dark, deep-intoxicating-engrossing. Acid mind tingling! Just 4 long works in 78 minutes.

ENDGAME - CUPOLA (Auricle AMCDR 040) CDR £7.00 - "Cupola" = Dome, & this is Endgame works that gave the impression of being Dome (Lewis & Gilbert) inspired.

ENDGAME - SHIPWRECKED (Auricle AMCDR 043) CDR £7.00 - A unique visionary sci-fi suite, a conceptual work of picture music that wrote itself! Plus a bonus 21st Century electronic suite. Unlike any Endgame before - vivid, perplexing, extraordinary!

ENDGAME - NUCLI (Auricle AMCDR 046) CDR £7.00 - Perceived as a sonic musical creation of elements like the TAGC of the DNA, this is typical Endgame, yet not at all like anything we've done before, & therefore another new invention! Just 3 large flowing works.

ENDGAME - H2SO4 (Auricle AMCDR 047) CDR £7.00 - Endgame musically recreate the properties of sulphuric acid! As hinted at with "Metabolism" & "Toxic..." this is destined to challenge, but as a collection of 5 shorter pieces it's a far more manageable release for the newcomer.

ENDGAME - FLUXION (Auricle AMCDR 050) CDR £7.00 - Surreal & unfocused, but with a purpose, this is pretty much the live sound of Endgame serenely yet aggressively blended, going onto new uncharted territory. 3 major flowing abstract works that ooze & flow as if ionised & atomic.

ENDGAME - LIVE, VOL. X (Auricle AMEGL10) CDR £5.00 - 68 minutes: 20/1/2004 & 3/8/2004.

ENDGAME - MP3 DISC (Auricle AMP3 CDR 001) CDR £12.00 - If you have a computer that can play mp3 files then this is the cheapest, greatest way to discover Endgame. Duration: 17 hours 16 minutes 15 seconds - almost unbelievable, yet it sounds remarkably good!

ENDGAME - HEXED (Auricle AMCDR 058) CDR £7.00 - 6 very different works: from the tonal fabrics of "Catamount Minor Tremble", onward though spooky soundscapes, diverting to the dense sonic sludge of "Waste Disposal" to the poignant Schulze-ish closer "There's No One There".

ENDGAME - NATTMARA (Auricle AMCDR 060) CDR £7.00 - 2 chillingly dark improvised soundtracks for the mind: "The Naked Fear Terminal" is a work of both startling unnerving intensity & subtle surreal spookiness, "Caustis Perpetua" wallows & writhes in a simultaneously warm & unwelcoming void.

ENDGAME - MAROONED (Auricle AMCDR 062) CDR £7.00 - The bizarre misadventures of Ernest B. Grimm continue, in a very different album from "Shipwrecked" but nevertheless with occasional thematic ingredients that hark back to its predecessor & complement it.

ENDGAME - CAGE (Auricle AMCDR 063) CDR £7.00 - "Cage" involves themes from a certain film involving paranoia, unreality, confusion & manipulation. This strange atmosphere yielded 2 near-on segued suites designed to jolt & perplex the listener. Be prepared for a very strange trip.

ENDGAME - A WITNESS TO MADNESS (Auricle AMCDR 066) CDR £7.00 - Dedicated to Edgar Allen Poe, with an infernal heartbeat rhythm that acted as the framework for some extraordinary sonic invention.

ENDGAME - UNDERWORLD (Auricle AMCDR 067) CDR £7.00 - This is aptly dark, strange & vividly almost scary, & best heard in the dark! This release alternates 5 parts of 2 works: "Subterraneans" & "Be Wear The Wolf, Man! He's Lupis".

ENDGAME - B C N U (Auricle AMCDR 070) CDR £7.00 - A strange conceptionalised opus full of surreal imagery, in 3 nice chunks. "Xenogen" is a bizarre work of fractured metal, "Six Of One" is an imaginary soundtrack, & "Shards Of Ice Quench The Fire Of The Mind".

ENDGAME - C (Auricle AMCDR 071) CDR £7.00 - Culled from Endgame session 100! That's the Roman numeral "C" ! C is Cosmic, Confluent, Corosive, Caustic, Celestial, Cerebral, & a Continuous Creation that lasts almost 65 minutes. There's very little melodic focus, yet it is "musical" in the way that early Cluster was, teetering on the edge...

ENDGAME - ALLES UBER SCHIZOPHRENE? (Auricle AMCDR 072/73) 2CDR £12.00 - An eccentric & diverse collection of oddments. If any Endgame release could be compared to the eccentric Dada of Nurse With wound then this is it. The material here has specially been chosen because of its perilous balance between the outrageous & its fiendish creativity.

ENDGAME - PETRI PERPLEX (Auricle AMCDR 080) CDR £7.00 - Dedicated to the spirit of Nurse With Wound (an afterthought really, & not really a homage) this is an eerie & strange slice of Endgame, a musical "Outer Limits" experience that defies any attempt at simple description!

ENDGAME - A FAUSTIAN FARMYARD (Auricle AMCDR 081) CDR £7.00 - Three totally different Endgame recordings, that all seemed somewhat Faust-like to us, hence the title! Warning: All anomalous noises on this record are purely intentional! Plus CD-ROM bonus.

ENDGAME - HORIZONS (Auricle AMCDR 084) CDR £7.00 - A collection of visions, imaginary soundtracks & a good deal of sci-fi inspiration: cosmic, melodic, sometimes almost chaotic!

ENDGAME - LIVE, VOL. XI (Auricle AMEGL11) CDR £5.00 - 79 minutes: 28/6/2005 & 28/11/2006.

ENDGAME - OBVIOUS (Auricle AMCDR 086) CDR £7.00 - An anti-title as nothing is really obvious here! 10 diverse tracks, some of it powerful, some of it totally bizarre, & much of it is cosmic.

ENDGAME - SCHATTEN (Auricle AMCDR 088) CDR £7.00 - An aptly dark "shadowy" & spooky excursion, like the soundtrack to a nightmare, lost in a spooky haunted house!

ENDGAME - SURREALISM IS A STATE OF MIND (Auricle AMCDR 094/95) 2CDR £12.00 - "Why does he love it when his brains turn to sludge & ooze out of his nostrils?" This, & many other questions, deliberately not answered by Endgame = perplexing creative music.

ENDGAME - SPACED (Auricle AMCDR 099) CDR £7.00 - A sci-fi theme to this very different Endgame, but very aptly spacey! Set your controls to "trip"... 8 trips of sonic/oozing/flowing invention.

ENDGAME - KHIMAIRA (Auricle AMCDR 108/109) 2CDR £12.00 - "Khimaira" the classical Greek spelling of "Chimera" (pronounced kai-mare-a), the fanciful beast of Greek mythology that shouldn't exist.

ENDGAME - ELEMENTAL TRAVELLER (Auricle AMCDR 110) CDR £7.00 - A web of 12 inter-related tracks covering a wide range of styles, levels & moods, with Kosmische Krautrock elements to it! In some ways this could be classed as one of the most instantly accesible of Endgame releases.

ENDGAME - OCULAR (Auricle AMCDR 111) CDR £7.00 - Deliberately spaced-out, sometimes very subdued, but with great dynamics, at other times it threatens to engulf the listener. The general feel is pretty avant-garde, electroacoustic (betwixt Stockhausen, Pierre Henry & Nurse With Wound).

ENDGAME - LIVE @ BAMBU (Auricle AMCDR 112/113) 2CDR £12.00 - The first full night's Endgame gig in 5 years, here caught in its entirety (except some minor editing of glitches). Just 4 big pieces of typical Endgame, yet with a wealth of new ideas.

ENDGAME - A MIND UNFOLDING (Auricle AMDVD 004) DVDR £7.00 - Endgame live in the studio, recorded & filmed spontaneously, & largely unremixed. With 3 real big chunks of that patent Endgame primordial ooze, that ebbs, grows & threatens to engulf listener.

ENDGAME - DARK MATTER (Auricle AMDVD 005) DVDR £9.00 - Format: 16:9 widescreen PAL, region free. No studio film on this one! This is pure music video, with space scenes, warped effects & all sorts of weird art & psychedelic visuals! No doubt there will be more to come!

ENDGAME - COBWEBS (Auricle AMCDR 125) CDR £7.00 - Just when you thought you'd heard every style of Endgame, along came a spider... dark, spooky, creepy, it's unreal! Right down to the phantom violin opus (track 6), be prepared for a wealth of surprises!

ENDGAME - MEMENTO (Auricle AMCDR 135) CDR £7.00 - "Memento" (a suite in 4 movements) - so much a live electroacoustic performance, more than the usual (?) Endgame, it was easy to conceptualise this, especially so as the four improvisations recorded on 4 April 2008 were all quite different.

ENDGAME - LIVE DVD OFFICIAL BOOTLEG (Auricle AMDVD OB1) DVDR £5.00 - This DVD is compiled from non-professional audience footage made with old &/or low-budget equipment.

ENDGAME - GRAVITY WELL (Auricle AMCDR 139) CDR £7.00 - An enigmatic one (culled from 2 sessions in 2003) with contrasting elements: cosmic & avant-garde, with a recurring thematic focus, jolting/jarring patterns, lots of oozing flows & a good few powerful crescendos.

ENDGAME - NO RANDOM SPLICE (Auricle AMCDR 140) CDR £7.00 - A hour-long sonic trek (recorded 11/11/2003), full of weather sounds, musique-concrete & weirdness. A very different twist on electroacoustic music, but typically Endgame!

ENDGAME - THINGAMAJIG (Auricle AMCDR 142) CDR £7.00 - A collection of diverse fragments & choice pieces from 3 different sessions. It seems that we were into pure experimentation & trying out lots of new ideas in winter 2003/4. There are musical concoctions here that even I've never heard before. In all, it amounts to some of the weirdest Endgame ever, some of it like sonic meteor collisions rendered with the most bizarre sounds imaginable. Yet there are still moments of pure beauty. The familiar meets the unfamiliar, there's a surprise around every corner!

ENDGAME - TEMPORAL CEMENT (Auricle AMCDR 144) CDR £7.00 - Another one hour opus, expanded, time dilated & convoluted by Alan, running amok with pitch shifting, collage & digital musique-concrete techniques. From silence to thunderous highs, a myriad different places, & back down again - feel the cement set!

ENDGAME - HORSELENGTH (Auricle AMDVD 009) DVDR £9.00 - Live at The Horse Hospital, 14/12/2008. Our first gig outside Leicester, 2 sets in 47 minutes, with video recorded/edited by Jim Tetlow.

ENDGAME - SOMNAMBULIST (Auricle AMCDR 147) CDR £7.00 - Unlike any other Endgame really, this is very dark, with big & shuddering sonics, some strange electronics & lots of big reverb crashes. Culled from 2 big pieces & then arranged to give it a kind of thematic whole, cherry picking the choice sections resulted in a wide range of different morsels, & many many surprises!

ENDGAME - ABSTRACTION (Auricle AMCDR 149) CDR £7.00 - The session notes say "start of bowed springs sessions" although there's a lot more going on in these recordings, but very little in the way of synths compared to most Endgame sessions. The avant-classical meets industrial feel of much of it lent perfectly to sonic concrete manipulation, adding lots of depth to the sound, and expanding 55 minutes of material to 66 minutes! Here we have Xenakis with the attitude of Lightwave, Dumitrescu crossed with the essence of freeform Kosmische Krautrock.

ENDGAME - JUST CURIOUS (Auricle AMCDR 154/155) 2CDR £12.00 - Spring & early Summer 2004 was a time of pure experimentation, some of it worked, some of it didn't, much of it was down-right-weird! So, what to do? Well, here are the results, a mixed-up selection of fragments, sketches & larger works of great diversity, from purely electronic to almost classical avant-garde, other places in between & beyond. Unclassifiable, mind-boggling, & - just curious! The title was taken from the final words of "Chameleon" written by James Crocker (a "Twilight Zone" episode, directed by Wes Craven).

ENDGAME - AMPLOS (Auricle AMCDR 158) CDR £7.00 - Emerging like Laraaji in the depths of Blackwing Studios interpreting Ash Ra Tempel (that's jangly string tonalities in a big strange reverbed space), this starts deep & gets even deeper. In keeping with the curious cover, this is elusive & odd stuff. There's a clue in the album title, but that won't prepare you for the lop-sided electronics & strangely drunken dream-state that fills much of this disc's 72 minutes. Not quite a semblance of nightmares, more a puzzling flight to places we've not quite gone to before! © 2010.

ENDGAME - INSTINCT (Auricle AMCDR 159) CDR £7.00 - Starting with a bizarre cascade of looped smashing/crashing sounds, & other stuff, things then calm down as we submerge in a surreal cosmic sludge, with flanged & mutated sounds, as a distant temple drum beats slowly... That's track 1, setting the stage for an unpredictable trek to Endgame pastures new! Take, for example "Polycrete" a big sound slab, musique-concrete with a difference. As it goes on it all becomes like a surrealistic dream, aptly pictured by Jim's weird cover art! © 2010.

ENDGAME - VAPOURS (Auricle AMCDR 160) CDR £7.00 - Elusive & finding a new footing after a year's hiatus, this has Jim adopting a new role using a laptop running sound samples through a spectral delay gizmo, & with Steve & Alan deliberately trying not to be in the Triax vein. There are flashes of the avant-classical here, moments of pure dissonance, melodic cosmos, spooky ambient, & the down-right scary!!! All sorts of inventions then in the album's potpourri of 12 tracks. Proof again that there is no typical Endgame. We invent, change - & move on. © 2010.

ENDGAME - ENIGMA (Auricle AMCDR 161) CDR £7.00 - Big sound environments, some of it almost musical (!?) but mostly way out, especially the rhythmic trips making use of the Roland GR33's bizarre arpeggiator! "Enigma" certainly lives up to its title, enigmatic, deep & dreamlike, often puzzlingly surreal in fact. 5 very different tracks of familiar Endgame ideas done in a completely new way. As always - there are no rules to the Endgame! © 2010.

ENDGAME - UNDER CONSTRUCTION (Auricle AMCDR 162) CDR £7.00 - A pretty bizarre one, even by Endgame standards, with a hell of a lot of sound manipulation & live musique-concrete, hence the apt title! Yes, it's weird, with twists & turns galore, sizzling noises, perplexing sound fabrics, & much more. There's a melodic context to much of it, but no real tunes, it's more about dynamics, counterpoint, development - drawing the listener in, surprising, & throwing in the occasional whammy that knocks the listener sideways (in the best possible way of course!).

ENDGAME - PHOENIX (Auricle AMCDR 164) CDR £7.00 - Endgame go on in leaps & bounds to realms that even we have never heard before! Yes, we surprise ourselves sometimes. Hence the title "Phoenix" - Endgame reborn, exploring the familiar on an unfamiliar level, pimordial yet on fire, with looming tension, forays that glide off into the ether, bubble, sizzle, surge &.... It's hard to put into words something that's not quite like anything else. That's Engame for you! © 2010.

ENDGAME - SENTINEL (Auricle AMCDR 165/6) 2CDR £12.00 - Possibly the most perfect of Endgame sessions, heard "as is" with no remix! This is proof that we can do Endgame pure, un-remixed, ... enigmatic, engulfing! © 2010.

ENDGAME - TACTILE (Auricle AMCDR 170) CDR £7.00 - Remixes from the "A Mind Unfolding" session, quite different to that on the DVD (that is sprawling and pretty much faithful to what was performed), this is tweaked & layered, condensed & with extra dynamics, re-composed almost.

ENDGAME - BEYOND THE RIM (Auricle AMCDR 172/3) 2CDR £12.00 - In preparation for our first ever gig outside of Leicester, we did a kind of rehearsal using the minimum of equipment we could still get a decent sound out of. Remarkably the session (hardly edited) stood up well as it was, & only needed a little repairing & mixing. Elements from the December "Horselength" London gig & the Pavillion gig here in Leicester can be heard here, in a more controlled setting. The gig is available as a DVD (Auricle AMDVD 009) with Jim adding lots of snazzy effects & such-like!

ENDGAME - FUNGUS (Auricle AMCDR 175) CDR £7.00 - The 7 tracks here are each named after (or something to do with) a fungus. Overall the mood is close to "Spaced" - yet here it's more inner than outer space, molecules, spores, growth & decay, all delivered with a mind boggling array of real & unreal instruments, synthesizers, guitars, tapes, etc. © 2011.

ERUPTION - LAVA (Auricle AMCDR 019) CDR £7.00 - Free improvised electronics, guitars & violin from Endgame + El Monte (member of Volcano The Bear). Very much in the spirit of Kosmische Krautrock & explorative avant-garde, very much a nod to the early-1970's rock underground!

ESCAPE ROUTE = Alto Stratus & Chris Conway's Contumuum.

ESCAPE ROUTE - PANDORA'S BOX (Auricle AMCDR 128) CDR £7.00 - Debut from this hybrid project, live @ Bambu 2007. A unique blend of electronics plus!

ESCAPE ROUTE - SCYLLA & CHARYBDIS (Auricle AMCDR 130) CDR £7.00 - 2nd from Leicester's Improv Electronic Quartet: dark/melodic/unnerving/inspiring!

ESCAPE ROUTE - COLUMNS OF HERAKLES (Auricle AMCDR 146) CDR £7.00 - Spontaneous live sessions recorded at Quadelectronic event in 2008. Who knows what the future will hold when one has ventured towards "the lost realm of Atlantis" & created music like nothing else on Earth!

EXTREMITIES = Endgame plus Dave Powell on electrified/processed hurdy gurdy, flute, etc.

EXTREMITIES - VIELLE A CRU (Auricle AMCDR 034/35) 2CDR £12.00 - With sublime ethnic forgeries, Faustian, Krautrocky, diverse psychedelic intoxications, sonic nightmares & pure eccentricity.

EXTREMITIES - QUANTUM MECHANICS (Auricle AMCDR 059) CDR £7.00 - In many ways this is the rockiest excursion of the Freeman Bros. & Co., with a very rocky focus due to Jim's vibrant rhythms, & the mood is Krautrocky in a Neu!/Faust/Einsturzende Neubauten vein.

EXTREMITIES - TURBULENCE (Auricle AMCDR 069) CDR £7.00 - The most spontaneous release from the Endgame/Triax hybrid, with some wicked percussive drives, Kosmische & Krautrock hybrids, etc.

EXTREMITIES - INTRIGUE (Auricle AMCDR 092) CDR £7.00 - November 2006 session, radical/intensive & really out-there, tripping over the edge! Kinda Nurse With Wound meets Faust, via Throbbing Gristle, Tangerine Dream & pure avant-garde.

EXTREMITIES - FRACTURE (Auricle AMCDR 112) CDR £7.00 - The most varied but cohesive yet, "Fracture" lives up to its name in its palette of diversity, with a Krauty/folky/weirdy/unclassifiable mixture that really sizzles. This was one of the most intensive & productive of Extremities sessions.

EXTREMITIES - SYMBIOSIS (Auricle AMDVD 007) DVDR £9.00 - 3 symbiotic homogeneous works, hence the very apt title, all filmed live to PC & simultaneously recorded direct to digital, this time with Steve & Alan doing lots of low-tech visual effects, filming through a whisky tumbler, etc.

EXTREMITIES - COLLISION THEORY (Auricle AMCDR 141) CDR £7.00 - Amazingly varied free-rock & avant electronics. A wide range of styles & a vibrant hybrid of Endgame meets Triax.

EXTREMITIES - X-RAY (Auricle AMCDR 152/153) 2CDR £12.00 - Culled from 2 very different sessions, over 2 months apart, & some different equipment in use, expect the unexpected with "X-Ray"! I put the key elements together as conceived works or in jig-saw fashion, seguing randomly diverse moods one after the other. Sometimes mixed, sometimes jarring, or invisible. The transitions weld together picture music like stories, with melancholy, anger, fear & pure emotion.

EXTREMITIES - DISCHARGE (Auricle AMCDR 169) CDR £7.00 - A change of format for this 2009 Extremities session, just 3 big suites, 2 of them in reconstructed "collage" format works, book-ending a flowing opus that was left pretty much intact. Think explorative Faust, very early Kraftwerk, meeting Third Ear Band with a whole wealth of other unexpected elements, featuring flute, guitars, percussion, & a whole "orchestra" of electronics, Mellotron sounds, etc. In many ways it's the best introduction to Extremities yet, never too weird or extreme, although it is as always a challenging & groundbreaking trip, it's even a little melodic and cosmic in parts too!

ALAN FREEMAN - MEZZOSPHERE (Auricle AMCDR 001: 2xBT) CDR £7.00 - Member of: Alto Stratus, Endgame, Triax, etc. 1989 cosmic ambient opus that's otherworldly & surreal, with hints of early Popol Vuh, a little Schulzian "Irrlicht" in the use of strings, & a Middle-Eastern/Oriental edge.

ALAN FREEMAN - XYLEM (Auricle AMACDR 006) CDR £7.00 - Early electroacoustic/musique-concrete experiments (1983) & ambient synth works (1984-86).

ALAN FREEMAN - MELTING PHASE (Auricle AMCDR 006) CDR £7.00 - Largely synthesizer based 2001 solo, but not normal synth music, this explores unique surreal territory, with weird bubblings & synth textures, onto the realms of innovators Asmus Tietchens & Conrad Schnitzler.

ALAN FREEMAN - CAPTURED FLUX (Auricle AMCDR 011) CDR £7.00 - Completely created on guitar, & obviously inspired by the pioneering works of Robert Fripp, Richard Pinhas & Manuel Gottsching, this is a textural world of multi-layered guitar textures, cyclical patterns & loops.

ALAN FREEMAN - SKETCHBOOK (Auricle AMCDR 041) CDR £7.00 - Electronic music, but not that you know it! 2002 solo recordings: electronics, guitar & collage.

ALAN FREEMAN - ELEMENTAL MEDITATION (Auricle AMCDR 143) CDR £5.00 - Recorded live at Tachyon Studio on 2/12/2001 in real time to cassette tape, with the intention of being used for concert backing tapes but never was!

ALAN FREEMAN - DARK CORRIDORS (Dark Star DSC 16) CDR £5.00 - Originall credited to Xylem. "Dark Corridors" was inspired by hours upon hours of getting lost in playing games on the Sinclair Spectrum, especially those by Gargoyle Games & Ultimate "Play The Game" - fascinating puzzle & labyrinth games, the likes of which seem to have disappeared since. I tried to emulate that spookiness & surreal atmosphere, although I did too much layering & filtering it seems, which resulted in quite a bit of tape hiss. I've tried to rectify that here, & get rid of some crackle too.

STEVE FREEMAN - CATACLYSM (Auricle AMCDR 005: 1xBT) CDR £7.00 - Member of: Alto Stratus, Endgame, Triax, etc. 1983 concept based around the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, sombre & disturbing, but with an air of optimism, resulting in a rewarding poignant experience.

STEVE FREEMAN - SCORPIO (Auricle AMACDR 007) CDR £7.00 - Collection of historic 1983 works, of musique-concrete & sonic/electronic textures, for those into the dark & strange.

STEVE FREEMAN - CONUNDRUM (Auricle AMCDR 010) CDR £7.00 - Continuing Steve's ideas in sonic recycling, this goes much further into his use of Steve Reich styled loop-phasing techniques, with parallels to Glenn Branca, with the daring audacity we expected with old Nurse With Wound

IMPROMPTU ELECTRONIC - LIVE @ BAMBU (Auricle 115/116) 2CDR £12.00 - This documents 2007 concerts at the Bambu bar. Culled from two hybrid concerts of solos, duos, & jams involving 4 or 5 musicians (from Endgame & Continuum), from the chaotic to the majestic.

THE NEWT HOUNDS - THE POIGNANT DEVICE (Ultimate Transmissions UTCD 008) CD £8.00, m/m £6.00 - A homage to Nurse With Wound, surrealism, the art of B. Kliban, & more, this is an eccentric diversion from the Alto Stratus people, with guests from Volcano The Bear & Shapeshifter.

THE NEWT HOUNDS - LOOSE NUTS (Auricle AMCDR 090) CDR £7.00 - 99 tracks in 78 minutes! The Newt Hounds take you to were no-one else has!

POLYMORPH - SHAMAN (Auricle AMCDR 023) CDR £7.00 - Endgame + Maureen Anderson (of Shapeshifter) = Polymorph, kinda Mother Gong ventures to Musica Elettronica Viva's "Leave The City"?

DAVE POWELL - FRIED ROSIN (Auricle AMCDR 042) CDR £7.00 - The unimaginable sound of the electrified hurdy gurdy from Extremities & Triax member. Tonal sonics & abstract fabrics.

DAVE POWELL - INDUSTRIAL FOLK MUSIC (Auricle AMCDR 051) CDR £7.00 - With a wider range of sounds (hurdy gurdy & other instruments) & textures, this is all acoustic music - but not as we know it! © 2004.

DAVE POWELL - ELECTRONIC ODYSSEYS (Auricle AMCDR 093) CDR £7.00 - "Meditations for flute & other instruments" = very much in esoteric Bob Downes vein. © 2007.

QUADELECTRONIC - CITIES IN FLIGHT (Auricle AMCDR 150/151) 2CDR £12.00 - Quadelectronic is a unique inexplicable monthly event. More of a "happening" than a regular gig. An improv, jam, workshop event for those that love to experiment & interact in free improvisation. Open house, within reason, anything can happen. Naturally, the key focus is electronics, although other instruments extensively feature. Performances have ranged from free-form chaos to space-rock to cosmic jazz, to pure synthesizer or avant-garde electronics. This is one of the finest ever. Featuring Chris Conway, Dave Dhonau, Alan Freeman, Steve Freeman, Dave Powell, Jim Tetlow, etc.

THE SCANNER GAME - MUSICI (Auricle AMCDR 053) CDR £7.00 - Endgame meets The Planet Scanners (Chris Conway's improvising space music trio). Live at The Musician pub, Leicester 2004. Culled from 2 big 60+ minute jams, this 74 minute disc is full of invention.

THE SCANNER GAME - COURTEOUS (Auricle AMCDR 068) CDR £5.00 - One 47'49" improvisation recorded at The Musician pub (28/6/2005), this also features Dave Powell on hurdy-gurdy.

JIM TETLOW - SYNAPSE (Auricle AMCDR 003) CDR £7.00 - Member of: Endgame, Hemamorphite, etc. Talented multi-instrumentalist with a style hinting at Sylvian & Czukay, Coil, Cluster or ???? © 2001.

JIM TETLOW - ONEIROMANCER (Auricle AMCDR 009) CDR £7.00, m/m £5.00 - "Electroacoustic Works Vol. 1". Exploring another facet of Endgame, Jim decided to do a CD entirely without instruments. © 2001.

JIM TETLOW - HEART OF GLASS (Auricle AMCDR 015) CDR £7.00 - Venturing further into the realms of transformed frequencies & disfigured tonalitles, this is a subtle, yet deep & powerful album. © 2002.

JIM TETLOW - SLOTH (Auricle AMCDR 052) CDR £7.00 - Jim's deep ambient album, meditational yet not really soniferous or new-age, hints of the most ethereal Nurse With Wound, yet overall unique!

JIM TETLOW - QUICKSILVER (Auricle AMCDR 074) CDR £7.00 - A very varied mixture of styles: floating, rhythmic &... Full of surprises & unique invention, this has Jim inventing a new genre.

JIM TETLOW - SUBSTANCE & ASCENSION (Auricle AMCDR 091) CDR £7.00 - 1998-99 archives. Spooky atmospheric works from Endgame member. © 2006.

TRIAX = The 3 axes of Extremities (Alan & Steve Freeman plus Dave Powell).

TRIAX - MUSIK ZU ARCANA (Auricle AMCDR 027) CDR £7.00 - Guitars, bass & a hurdy-gurdy (plus lotsa electronics) = Triax, a strange music: dark & weird, with 9 diverse new creations. Not for the timid!!!

TRIAX - CROC EN JAMBE (Auricle AMCDR 037) CDR £7.00 - Very different to the debut, this is more out-there on the ethereal plane, a unique mixture of genres & inventions, with lots of new surprises!

TRIAX - DRIE SNIJDENDE VLAKKEN (Auricle AMCDR 042) CDR £7.00 - With a triangular front cover! Eclectic & fascinating instrumental music.

TRIAX - SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION (Auricle AMCDR 048/49) 2CDR £12.00 - Combining abstract & melodic electronics, guitars, hurdy-gurdy, lots of bowed instruments & processing, somewhere between early Cluster, the Third Ear Band, Nurse With Wound, & a nod towards Endgame (naturally!).

TRIAX - DANGEROUS PLAYGROUND (Auricle AMCDR 064/65) 2CDR £12.00, m/m £6.00 - An imaginary soundtrack? A collection of macabre musical visions? This is eerie & macabre sounding stuff, with tonalities you're unlikely to hear in any other music.

TRIAX - MOEBIUS STRIP (Auricle AMCDR 075/76) 2CDR £12.00 - Submerge yourself in a 121'21" excursion: vast & flowing, sometimes really minimal, but also growing to extraordinary heights, with guitars, electronics, hurdy-gurdy & all sorts of weirdness!

TRIAX - SHATTERED (Auricle AMCDR 079) CDR £7.00 - Triax Vol. 7 is a mystical/mutilated mixture of melodic & sonic fabrics. Entirely in a world of its own!

TRIAX - ALIEN FOLK (Auricle AMCDR 082) CDR £7.00 - Adding violin to Dave's repertoire instantly meant a change of focus, and add to that an armory of percussive intruments & toys.

TRIAX - EMBRYO (Auricle AMCDR 085) CDR £7.00 - Triax reincarnated as a flute & electronics outfit, with Dave adopting the role of cosmic echo flautist in addition to his other instruments. With more nifty use of sampling: Mellotrons, rhythmic loops, & such-like, it's all taking the music somewhere else.

TRIAX - TORN ASUNDER (Auricle AMCDR 087) CDR £7.00 - The ever expanding instrumentation of Triax! Album #10 has sax, flute & violin, a more diverse & fragmented album with a total of 24 tracks.

TRIAX - SUPERNATURAL TROUBADOURS (Auricle AMCDR 089) CDR £7.00 - Triax #11 sees the uncompromising/explorative trio turning into a mini orchestra, with cello, violins, sax, oboe, etc., in addition to the usual guitars, hurdy-gurdy, synths, etc.

TRIAX - CAUSE & EFFECT (Auricle AMCDV 001) CDR £7.00 - VCD video disc. Triax raw session footage (2/1/2007), for a private concert in your living room! This should play on most DVD players.

TRIAX - CAUSE & EFFECT (Auricle AMCDR 097) CDR £7.00 - Companion to the CDV. More abstract with solos to the fore, reconstructed extensively for a different experience to the CDV.

TRIAX - CAUSE & EFFECT (Auricle AMDVD 001) DVDR £9.00 - Region free PAL system video. Enhanced picture quality, with missing track: "Session #5".

TRIAX - 13 (Auricle AMCDR 100) CDR £7.00 - The number 13 is said to be "unlucky for some" but not in this case, as this is yet another album full of surprises!

TRIAX - LIVE @ BAMBU (Auricle AMCDR 104) CDR £7.00 - After 13 albums of session work, the debut of Triax live, culled from 2 gigs (January & March 2007), intuitive improvisation featuring hurdy-gurdy, guitars, flute, electronics, etc.

TRIAX - UNHINGED (Auricle AMCDR 106/107) 2CDR £12.00 - A pretty mixed up selection of choice cuts from 2 big Triax sessions. A mixture of the old, the new, & types of Triax that even we'd never heard before! Kosmismiche, musique-concrete, ethnic music from Jupiter? Even some industrial Krautrock.

TRIAX - FRACTAL (Auricle AMDVD 003) DVDR £9.00 - Region free PAL system video. From the sessions of Triax 13. A great value 90 minutes of Triax live in the studio (12/2/2007), with lots of special visual effects, psychedelic patterns, animations, etc.

TRIAX - CYCLE (Auricle AMCDR 118) CDR £7.00 - Ouroboros is an ancient alchemy symbol depicting a snake or dragon consuming its own tail, constantly creating itself & forming a circle. Aptly "Cycle" does just that, it constantly recycles & consumes itself, over & over in changing combinations.

TRIAX - CREATURES (Auricle AMCDR 126/127) 2CDR £12.00 - Crammed full of some of the most powerful Triax yet, recorded October & December 2007. With another new instrument: Stylophone!

TRIAX - LIVE 080308 (Auricle AMDVD 006) DVDR £9.00 - Support for Black Carrot, live at the Charlotte, Leicester. A very different Triax gig, more condensed, more focused, more melodic...

TRIAX - RAZOR (Auricle AMCDR 129) CDR £7.00 - Ever attempting new ideas & new challenges, here's an album that's been totally slashed apart, twisted, flipped & rearranged into something new. The material, very different, puzzling & eclectic, demanded it, & it all seemed to fall together well.

TRIAX - VORTEX (Auricle AMCDR 134) CDR £7.00 - Unlike its predecessor "Razor" here we have 5 sessions that remain 5 mixed works, each a puzzle in itself. Welcome to the world of surreal mixing "The Vortex" - a kind of concept opus.

TRIAX - THREADS (Auricle AMCDR 136/137) 2CDR £12.00 - All the best &/or very different stuff from 3 mammoth sessions, a lot of it pretty radical & challenging - it could be seen as a huge 158 minute Triax "Faust Tapes" lots of "rock" rhythmic drives, sizzling electronic overloads, freaky guitars, etc.

TRIAX - METAMORPHIC TRICKSTER (Auricle AMCDR 145) CDR £7.00 - "A Surly Finale" was actually the first track recorded here, because it seemed more like an ending, even when we did it. After that we (or, should I say - I) had problems with weird buzzing. Arghhh, perils of the misbehaving noisy computer, I couldn't locate the problem so decided to give it a rest & concentrate on guitar instead, & hence we have a very different Triax here, on the one hand back to early Triax sound, but with a wider ranging, richer, more "melodic" sound palette.

TRIAX - ASKEW ON TREADLE (Auricle AMCDR 148) CDR £7.00 - With titles like "Fried Cat Stampede" & "Electric Brain Brush" you know you're in for an adventurous off-kilter trip here, & some!!! A very creative & experimental new twist on old ideas! If I dare say so, I even surprised myself! (Alan :)) © 2009.

TRIAX - DESOLATE (Auricle AMCDR 156) CDR £7.00 - 4 sessions that turned into accidental dedications! Typically engaging Triax, as-ever unclassifiable! © 2010.

TRIAX - THE HOLLOW LANDS (Auricle AMCDR 163) CDR £7.00 - 4 big sonic adventures in just over an hour, & a heady trip! Uniquely Triax improvisations, strangely electronic & frazzled, as mindbending & surreal as a weird sci-fi novel. © 2010.

TRIAX - MINDSWAP (Auricle AMCDR 167) CDR £7.00 - Performed as just 4 sessions - that may sound like they are fragmented/shattered, blurred/dissolved, then reassembled - but basically all I did was take the 11 sections that stood up as tracks (& did the usual minor remixing & balancing of levels, plus a few cross-fades & splices, reverb tails, dynamic effects, etc, etc.) & then shuffled them into the best order. The resultant "sound pictures" range from the nightmarish through to blissfully serene, from unmusical through to strangely musical hybrids of folk (kind of) & industrial ooze, whatever it is - no one's thought of a name for it yet! All the titles are culled from a Robert Sheckley surreal sci-fi novel. © 2010.

TRIAX - NECRONIMICON (Auricle AMCDR 171) CDR £7.00 - This is a dark & menacingly powerful one, a spine tingling/sence sizzling one! Not inspired by H.P. Lovecraft or H.R. Giger (both well-known for their works called "Necronomicon"), as the idea for title came later! Lots of electronics & big walls of sound, plus bizarre collage & concrete sound fabrics, make the whole album into what feels like a 51 minute suite (of individual tracks) with pauses... © 2010.

TRIAX - NOT ON THIS EARTH (Auricle AMCDR 174) CDR £7.00 - Triax #28 (recorded 16/8/2010) is unlike any other, full of twisted psychedelic phasing! With titles inspired by Michael Moorcock. © 2011.

ZIRCON & THE BURNING BRAINS = Alan & Steve Freeman (see Alto Stratus entry) together with Nigel Harris (now resident in Japan). Note: initially formed as a duo of Alan & Steve Freeman.

ZIRCON & THE BURNING BRAINS - MANA (Dark Star DSC DS304) CDR £5.00 - © 1983. 2nd release by the trio version of ZBB. Dada meets surrealistic industrial electronic art. Largely spooky stuff featuring lots of loops, radio, effects, etc.

ZIRCON & THE BURNING BRAINS - ANAM (Dark Star DSC DSC01) CDR £5.00 - © 1983. Industrial/improv/sonic collage, in Throbbing Gristle/Nurse With Wound realms.
