An impromptu one-off session, it led to the creation of a
music, not quite Endgame, not
really Shapeshifter either,
even with Maureen adding her characteristic echo flute and poetry, it is a
bizarre otherworldly offering, venturing to the strangest realms of Mother
Gong, and to a mystical avant-garde. "The Crack In The Cosmic Egg"
found Maureen (inspired by the title of our Krautrock book) improvising
ad-lib on the subject of eggs, embryos and zygotes, in a musical suite that
is so logical in its development and arrangement that it's almost impossible
to believe that it was improvised. On the other hand, "Rites of the
Shaman" is more obviously a tone-poem improvisation, with Endgame
playing a backing to Maureen's mystical recitation of the mystical Shaman.
Fans of Nico (works with John Cale), Musica Elettronica
Viva "Leave The City", the more abstract realms of Gong, Mother
Gong, and such-like, should really go for this!
A couple of Polymorph live performances also happened
during 2001, but were unfortunately not recorded. Thus, as a unique document
of this project, Polymorph's "Shaman" is another Tachyon recording
that has stood on the shelf a while, but is a unique creation that we keep
coming back to, hence its eventual release.
