Darth Kayos escapes !
26th July 2010
Jedi Master Luke Skywalker has pursued the Sith Lord through the crimson-carpeted corridors of the Imperial Palace. Darth Kayos runs in pain and fear, she runs with the power of the Dark Side of the Force. She reaches a hangar bay, and races to her ship.
As Luke enters the dimly lit hangar, the young Jedi sees an Imperial spaceship near the entrance rise and turn. The nightscape of Coruscant and its ever-bustling traffic lanes can be seen through the large opening.
Jedi Master Skywalker runs into a Palace hangar bay and sees Darth Kayos' ship rise and turn.
Luke reaches the hangar bay opening, and looks up into the incessant air traffic, knowing that, for now at least, his quarry has escaped. The Jedi sighs, re-clips his lightsabre to his belt, then turns to investigate the rest of the Imperial Palace and the Royal throneroom in particular.
Luke looks up to see Kayos' ship escaping into the ever-busy Coruscant traffic lanes.
Next month, I hope to re-present this thrilling sequence of events in a series of FLASH animations. Also, I have been working on detailed views of Darth Kayos' ship, taking my cue from the decades-old Sith ship design as well as the more recent Imperial navy constructions, and I hope to showcase that work at the next editorial.
You can see the VE artwork in the 'Coruscant' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here !
The Official Site recently provided details of a Q&A and documentary about movie poster and novel cover artist Drew Struzan at Comic-Con 2010. Personally, I rate Drew Struzan's work highly, his painterly style recalling vintage movie posters of bygone decades, but his artwork being very clearly moderne. The style gave a distinctive look and feel to the Prequel Trilogy, as well as to some of the contemporary EU spin-off novels.
SW.Com also provided a publication price and date for the forthcoming 'Sounds of Star Wars' audiobook. As mentioned in the November 2009 VE editorial, this reveals the anecdotal history of the genesis of many of the sound effects in the six movie episodes, as well as from the recent Clone Wars 3D CG animation series. It's due for release in October, and will retail for around £30 or $38.
In other news, a group of international fans who have periodically journeyed across Tatooine - Tunisia - have discovered that the iconic Lars Homestead film-set out in the desert saltflats is rapidly deteriorating under the savage climate of sun, wind, and temperature extremes. They have resolved to raise enough funds to return to the site, and repair it for future travellers to experience the Lars home as it was in 1976 and 2000. Of course, it's a never-ending battle against the environment and the climate to protect such a location, but in the short-term at least, let's hope that they're successful ! You can learn more from their FaceBook page here, and from Mark Dermul's site here, that retails two books of his Tatooine experiences, and which can provide a small donation towards this preservation endeavour, as well as very comprehensive write-ups at RebelScum.Com and TheForce.Net following their fourth and last visit to Tunisia.
