Deaf awareness training

Within the UK approximately ‘one in seven’ of the population have some degree of hearing loss.  VISS is able to arrange and deliver full or half day courses aimed at anyone who wishes to gain an understanding of all types of deafness ensure good communication between deaf and hearing people.

Courses are generally composed of two elements: a generic grounding in all aspects of deafness and implications for communication, and a bespoke component geared towards specific requirements of organizations/individuals.

Elements of the courses include:

• types of deafness;
• language and communication methods;
• technical aids to communication;
• experiences of being deaf in a hearing world;
• legislation relating to deafness.
