End Of Season Goodbyes 2008/09
It is it that time of year again, we are approaching the end of the season
and it is
coming to the time when we have to say goodbye and good luck to the Under 14s
players who are leaving our league.
We want to wish them all well for the future and invite them to keep in touch
and
let us know how they are doing as time goes by whether that is still in football
or
not. We hope you have enjoyed your time with us and take with you some nice
memories which in years to come will bring a smile to your faces.
I do not know everyone who is leaving but I want to mention a few that I have
been lucky to work with and come across over the years.
Oliver (Scarlet
Reds)
He has always been a real utility player who can play anywhere on the pitch and
has been involved with the Nationals Squad at times too. A pleasant lad
who
always gives his best and his Dad has been a big support to his manager Adam
too.
Anthony (Scarlet
Reds)
For me Anthony is a real old fashioned give it all footballer who just will keep
on
digging deep to find more and is as honest as the day is long. Another player
to be involved with the Nationals, he was selected twice to represent his league
and
he was Captain for them last season. With his younger brother just
starting to come
through the ranks at least we will still have a bit of the Woolmer magic gracing
our
league. Comes across as shy off the pitch and is a lion on it.
Harry (Scarlet
Reds)
Full of ability and energy Harry is another ex-Nationals player who has done
well
throughout his time with us and followed his older brother George in the
Reds
through Inters and Mains and must have a fair bit of silverware on his shelf.
He has always been well supported by his family through his time with us and
we will miss them all.
Charlie (Light
Blues)
One of our families favourites through the years it is sad to see Charlie
leaving but
he has done brilliantly. He has improved all the way through and some of
my
favourite moments have been seeing him dive in with a last ditch 'John Terry'
type tackle. One of those players who become the heart and soul of the
team
and with brilliant support from his family.
Yusuf ( Emerald
Greens)
This lad has been a super player for our league and a bit of a nightmare for me
as he turned down the chance to play for the Nationals twice. Please do
not
misunderstand me he did not say no because he did not want to play or did not
think it was worth it but because he just had a bit of a lack of self confidence
and
felt he was not good enough but believe me he was and is a super player.
Very strong and tough to get the ball off and able to really lift a side, his
younger
brother Kerim is not very different and a real talent too.
They are always well supported by Mum who
seems to be there every Sunday and she has even stepped into manage at times
too, it is families like this that are so important to our league though of
course
everyone does their bit.
Sam (Royal
Blues)
One of the most talented players to pass through our league though can be a bit
feisty at times though that is something that you can come to love about him as
he
has so much passion for the game and wants to win. He has been a star midfielder
for many seasons and has shone for the Nationals too. Hopefully he will continue
to play and flourish and get out of the run of injuries that he has had
recently.
Aaron (Yellows)
With his Dad managing his team for the last couple of seasons Aaron has been a
stalwart of the Yellows side and done really well. It has been a big shame that
an
injury this season saw him miss the closing games and be unable to play in that
all important last game of the season. We wish him well for the future and hope
that
he stays injury free.
Daniel (Maroons)
One of the many who are so special to our league as he has been with us since
the
Under 8s and has done nothing except improve all the way through to where he
is now. It's been nice to see him finish his last season with us as part of the
team
who have done the League and Cup double. He always gives his best and works
hard and is a credit to his Mum and Dad who are always there to support him.
Josh (Maroons)
To me Josh is the nearest thing we have to the Duracell Bunny as he just never
seems to stop. He is full of talent and energy and gives his best game after
game.
He is a real star player who will be missed.
Rhys (Maroons)
He is one of those players who as soon as you see him on a Sunday morning he
brings a smile to your face, mostly because he is always smiling himself.
He has a mischievous grin and sometimes looks like butter would not melt in his
mouth but behind that cheeky look there is a super football player and a lovely
lad. He had two seasons with the Nationals and has had a terrific few
seasons
with the Maroons and it was nice to see him score two goals in the Cup Final
recently. His Mum is always there supporting him and he always gives his best.
Another we will miss lots.
Jay (Maroons)
He is a real talent who can play all over the pitch and is a natural leader of a
team.
He too has played twice for the Nationals and has also had a brilliant time
with
the Maroons through Inters and Mains. He is such a likeable and pleasant young
man too and everyone from any team has nothing but respect for him. He is
another who is always well supported by his Mum and just does not know how
to give in, we are going to miss him so much too.
George (Maroons)
He has been a prolific goal scorer all the way through his time with our league
but
the funny thing is he could play in any position if asked to and I think has
done so.
He did a good job for the Nationals last season but has shone for the Maroons
constantly banging in the goals. We wish him well for the future too.
There are probably many I have missed out for now but I will keep adding to
this
list, I just wanted to get it started. We wish all our leavers well for the
future and
thank them for their time and effort with our league and that also goes to their
families and supporters.

Sad News
We received the sad information late on Friday that Mick Wheeler a former
parent
from Wallington Little League had sadly passed away.
Mick was a regular spectator down the park watching his son George who played
from Junior level through to Mains level and was also picked to play for
the
National squad. Mick was a very popular man and I was lucky to have George in
my first side that I managed and Mick and his wife Christine were fantastic
support
and helped us out considerably.
Things have been tough for the family lately with Mick's illness and now they
have
the sadness of his passing.
In recent days they have been digging deep and hoping against hope for the best,
now all we can do is send our sincere condolences to the whole family and
hope
they come through this as well as possible.
It is easy to go overboard about someone who passes away but Mick was a lovely
chap and a real gentleman, a true pleasure to know and we are all saddened at
the
news.
