What is the Bahá'í Faith?

The Bahá'í Faith is an independent world religion that embraces all previous major religions. It was founded by Bahá'u'lláh, who lived in the nineteenth century.  The Bahá'í Faith has teachings on all aspects of life, but its main purpose is to unite humanity. There are 3 core teachings:

The Oneness of God: There is only one God, though He may be called by many names.

The Oneness of Religion:  God has sent His Messengers at different times and places in human history. They are the founders of the major faiths - Moses, Buddha, Krishna, Christ, Muhammad, Zoroaster. Bahá'ís believe there is only actually one religion, the religion of God, and each of these apparently separate faiths takes us a step further forward. Their spiritual teachings are essentially the same but the social teachings differ because of the varying needs of the times in which they were revealed. Bahá'ís believe that religion is continually evolving; both spiritually and practically. Bahá'ís call this process "Progressive Revelation". Bahá'ís believe that Bahá'u'lláh is the most recent Manifestation of God, bringing teachings that are meant for this Age. There will be more of these Teachers in the future. Bahá'u'lláh said: "This is the changeless Faith of God, eternal in the past, eternal in the future."

The Oneness of Mankind: The specific mission of Bahá'u'lláh is to bring unity to the world: "The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens."  Bahá'ís believe that the time for world peace is now. There are many Bahá'í principles which work towards this goal, follow the links on the left to find out more.
