Youth Activities in SouthamJunior youth groupsThe spiritual education of young people is seen by Baha’is as one of the most important of services, as young people represent the future of the community. For that reason the Baha’is offer our activities and classes to those of all faiths or none. Their purpose is to help participants to acquire spiritual qualities and an upright character and to be of service to the world. Junior youth groups are for young people aged from 11 to 15. They are currently run as an after school club on Monday evenings at Southam College. They are based on Baha'i principles and the classes make much use of the arts. Baha’is believe that all the major world faiths are divine in origin, and we encourage young people to understand the essential truth and oneness of all faiths. Arts activities If you have read the history page, you will know that the community first expanded in 1998 through youth activities. After the initial week-long arts project in 1998, further weekend and day activities took place every few months and another successful Activity week was held the following year. In summer 2000, a peace banner was created by the youth and hung in front of the library. In subsequent years a Children's Activity Day was held for United Nations Day at the Graham Adams Centre and an African weekend of drumming and body percussion (step dancing). Youth and children are always welcome at all Baha'i meetings although the young ones might not appreciate a Tranquillity Zone!
