Painting Tips

- If you are looking for a nice even solid coverage of paint, three thin coats or layers of paint will give you the best result.  If you want it lighter, or want to see your brushstrokes, use fewer coats of paint. If you use too much paint, you will not get a smooth result, but more like an orange peel effect.

- If you want to use a background colour, you are best to use a light colour. Dark colours will show up beautifully on top of the light colours, but light colours struggle to show on top of dark ones.

- You use less paint then you think. Please help
us save pennies by only pouring small amounts
into your palette. You can always add more!

- Use a standard pencil to draw out what you want to paint.
Regular pencil marks burn away in the kiln, so they are the
perfect tool to use to perfect your painting!

- If you make a big mistake, the piece can be washed and you can start over. If it is just a small mistake, we have pointed cotton buds to make small corrections.

- You can mix colours, however please note that since the colours change so much after being glazed, we have no way of showing you what the colour you have created will look like after it has been fired.

- Always check that the brush you are about to use is clean. Sadly, some people put them back dirty and we don’t always catch them.

- After washing or wetting your brush, use some kitchen roll to dry it off a bit. Colour will go on better if not too watered down.
