Located close to the centre of the lively village of Braunton, Westmead House offers spacious, personalised accommodation for nineteen adults with severe physical disabilities. Although their ages range from nineteen to sixty-five, the majority are under thirty-five. Westmead's key aim is to provide the highest standard of care possible whilst encouraging residents to achieve their own maximum levels of independence. Some of the main features of Westmead include : -

  • All bedrooms are on the ground floor, most with direct outdoor access.
  • All rooms are single occupancy but one double room is available.
  • Residents select the decor, furnishings, special aids and equipment in their rooms.
  • Communal areas include dining room, activity room and coffee bar.
  • Full time in-house Activities Co-ordinator.
  • Wide and flexible range of activities available, many outside Westmead. Including : -

  • Ceramics
  • Carriage Driving
  • IT & Communications
  • Pub lunches and picnics
  • Shopping and other trips
  • Painting and Handicrafts
  • Individual hobbies and interests accommodated.

Westmead's staff are essential to the provision of high quality service and staff training is given a strong emphasis. New staff undertake a comprehensive induction programme balancing practical training with sessions on disability awareness and confidentiality. Training for National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) is also now an integral part of the on-going training programme and staff are encouraged to identify new opportunities for improving their skills and, as a result standards of care provided.
