Tuck Shop

Robin's Tuck shop

My Name is Robin Cork, I am a resident at Westmead and this year I have started a Tuck Shop. I have been hoping to set this up for a while.

Since I finished my College course I felt the things I had achieved were being wasted. It is open once a week at the moment, I hope to extend the hours and the product range. With assistance we can all achieve our goals; I have been lucky and have received a great deal of help. I would like to thank all those people that have supported me.

We now have a large range of activities on offer including a fully staffed Computer room, Dancing and Exercise group, German Culture and Language group, Pottery classes, Arts and crafts plus a varied list of trips out. The food is good and varied, the residents are good friends and the staff are fun to be with, whilst professional and caring.

Sharon’s points of view on the new kitchen

Residents in kitchen

It is a lot easier for our wheelchairs as the sink and cooker can be lowered to different heights. This lets us have easy access. Also people are able to join in to cook their own meals with help and go down to Tesco to buy their own ingredients.
When people walk in to Westmead it looks tidier, it gives us independence and allows us to do what we can for ourselves. If we do not like what is on the menu we can ask Jan to help prepare a different meal.
A white board is to be introduced which will show in picture form the menu for each day with options.
All for now will be in touch next month with more news.

The Views of new conservatory

By Sharon Luke

Sharon

The conservatory is really handy, as we have a lot more room in the dinning area, which makes it very easy for us to move around, as before it was very small and compact.

Its nice and light as it lets lot of sunlight in, which brightens up the place. When the new kitchen arrives and is fitted it will be very good, as long as the design is right, and suited for our needs. It will be able to give people a lot more independence downstairs. By the television downstairs is a comments page, where we can add suggestions, of what we want in our kitchen, and how we want it to look, this is really good, as it incorporates our ideas, these will be added to kitchen before it is finished. With the kitchen moving downstairs, we will have Multi Media facilities set up in the lounge and a lot more activities going on. Hopefully there is a flat screen going upstairs, so that we can watch films on.

This going to be a very exciting 2009 !!!!
