WF Turk Fine Antique Clocks

A particularly fine and elegant 17th century marquetry long case clock by Wm Cattell Fleete Street London. The 10 inch dial with winged cherub spandrels and original gilding to the dial plate. The makers name engraved along the bottom edge of the dial plate as one would expect from such an early clock. The 8-day countwheel striking movement also has the unusual feature of an alarm mechanism. The rich Olivewood Oyster veneered case with early style multi panels of marquetry and the original carved cresting to the rising hood.     The sides of the trunk also have Oyster veneers bordered with wide boxwood banding, the banding repeated to the sides of the base.

As one would expect from a London clock the carcase is of oak and the trunk door retains its original iron strap hinges and lock.

Made circa 1680

Height 79.5 inches ( 202cm )
