Later he was Commissioner of Array to review local militia, and when the duke of Norfolk was exiled in 1398 he was one of the Council to administer his affairs. When Henry IV became King in 1399, he confirmed the annuities from the Crown previously granted to sir George by Richard II. Thus he served three English Kings, a unique achievement. The brass shows him in plate armour with a scalloped jupon charged with his arms, sadly the lion's head is lost. Price: £58.50 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%) |

The couple were childless, and his effigy is included on their family memorial. The brasses of both Richard Fowler and Richard Quartermain are similar both in the hair style of the time, and the armour of the Yorkist period. The elbow-cops become larger until finally they replace the shield altogether. Price: £75.00 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%) |

Sir John de Foxle 1378 - Bray, Berkshire Dimensions of whole product (figure may be within this): Height in inches: 33.5 Width in inches: 10.5 Weight in kg: 7.0 Full Scale, Replica or Theme? Full Scale Sir John wearsarmour of the Camail or Jupon period. His pointed bassinet helmet rests on his tilting helm, a fox's head. His jupon, the sleeveless tunic that covered his body armour, bears his arms, gules (red) 2 bars Or (gold). This tunic helped keep his armour cool and dry, and identified the bearer in battle. He lived during Edward III's reign. The Foxle family were landowners. Sir John married twice, his first wife Maud was daughter of sir John Brocas of Beaupaire in Hampshire. The second wife was Joan Martin. Sir John's will specified that Maud's brass was to be the more elaborate of the two, indicating her family connections. Price: £138.00 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%) |
|
Lady Maude de Foxle 1378 - Bray, Berkshire Dimensions of whole product (figure may be within this): Height in inches: 33.5 Width in inches: 10.5 Weight in kg: 3.8 Full Scale, Replica or Theme? Full Scale Lady Maud (possibly also known as Matilda?) was the first wife of Sir John de Foxle, and the daughter of sir John Brocas of Bearepaire in Hampshire. She wears a nebule headdress, in which the hair is gathered into nets that frame the face. Over her kirtle, or long dress, she wears a short sleeved cotehardie with long liripipes hanging from the short sleeves. Heraldic lions, probably embroidered, decorate her splendid cotehardie, while the dress of the second wife, Joan, is plain. The careful distinction is interesting and was specified in Sir John's will, to show that she brought more wealth and influence to the Foxle family than the second wife Joan. Price: £138.00 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%) |

Lady Joan de Foxle 1378 - Bray, Berkshire Dimensions of whole product (figure may be within this): Height in inches: 33.5 Width in inches: 10.5 Weight in kg: 3.8 Full Scale, Replica or Theme? Full Scale Lady Joan de Foxle, nee Martin, was the second wife of sir John. She is wearing a nebule head-dress in which the hair is gathered into nets that frame the face. She wears, like Sir John's first wife Maud, a short sleeved cotehardie, with long liripipes hanging from them-this was worn over a long dress or kirtle. But, unlike Maud, she is shown with no rich embroidery on her gown, which marks her as the less important of Sir John's two wives. It would seem her family had less wealth and influence than Maud's family. Maud was the daughter of Sir John Brocas of Beaupaire in Hampshire. The Brocas Trinity is another brass in this series. Price: £138.00 (Excluding VAT at 17.5%) |
