YOUR VILLAGE – YOUR VILLAGE GREEN – YOUR VOICE
One of the most outstanding features of Wilcot is the wonderful Green at its centre that all who live here benefit from and enjoy.
This Green is neither common land nor municipally owned and maintained but in fact is held in Trust for the benefit of Wilcot and its residents. The Green is maintained in its splendid and much admired state under the auspices of the Wilcot Recreation Ground and Hall Management Committee through the sterling efforts of our Groundsman. Known locally as the Hut & Green Committee, the Committee is a Registered Charity and deals with the administration and maintenance of Wilcot Village Green, together with the play area, and the Village Hall, and similarly the administration of the Trust Funds through which this is achieved. Events are organized from time to time, held either in the Hall or on the Green for entertainment, enjoyment, interest and otherwise benefit of Wilcot Residents, in addition to helping to raise funds for both the Trust and other charities. The most notable recent event was this year’s Fayre on the Green which not only boosted the Trust’s funds but enabled us to donate nearly £700 each to the prospect Hospice and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust
The Committee comprises Wilcot residents from all corners of the village, all of whom give of their time freely. In its essence the Trust Management Committee is about your village, for your village and run by your village; at its best and most successful when there is maximum village involvement. So in addition to saying hello, letting you know who we are and what we do, we very much hope you will contribute your thoughts and ideas and join in with events – let us hear your voices! And, perhaps the next time you are on the Green, or in the Hall, you might just spare a thought for the work that goes into keeping them!
The Hall can be booked through Tony at No 12. Fees are £3 per hour for the Hall or £4 per hour with use of kitchen. Priority will be given to residents of Wilcot and the immediate area
The Committee’s has an Annual General Meeting around May of each year and at this year’s meeting there were a number of changes in membership. Committee Member’s names and telephone numbers are published from time to time in the Messenger and Wilcot Village Voice.
