Tandem Skydive:
If you just want to do one jump and leave it at that, but would like the experience of every aspect of our sport - Free-fall, a canopy ride, perhaps get a video, all on your very first jump, then a Tandem Skydive is the one for you.
Tandem Skydives normally take place between 10,000 to 13,000 feet. It involves a parachute system which uses a dual harness which allows for two people to be attached together as they exit the aircraft. The instructor controls every aspect of the jump. It is a system that is ideally suited for a disabled person.
A fully qualified British Parachute Association (B.P.A.) Tandem Instructor will give you a short pre-jump briefing. Here the Instructor will explain in detail what is required from you and what will take place during the flight up, the exit, the freefall descent and the canopy ride down back down to the ground. This normally takes around 20/30 minutes.
You will be given a jumpsuit to go over your clothes, wear comfortable clothing which will keep you warm, and a pair of trainers. You will then be fitted into the tandem parachute harness, headgear and goggles. And, weather permitting, it is off to the aircraft. When everyone is aboard and connected up, the aircraft will take off. It will take about 20 minutes for the aircraft to climb to your jump altitude. Then it is just one big step down.
As you exit the aircraft, securely attached to your Instructor, you will experience a thrill like no other. You will experience the thrill of freefall and reach a speed of around 120 miles per hour for about 30 seconds. Then the Instructor opens the main parachute at about 6000 feet.
The descent under the large square parachute may take up to 5 minutes, during this time you can help to steer it down to the landing area, if you wish. However, remember to enjoy the view, you can see for miles, and will find out why the birds sing.
Remember, this may be the one and only time you will do a Skydive, so why not have a record of it. You can have one of our Freefall Cameramen join you on your Tandem Skydive. They use both Video and still photography to give you a permanent record of the event. They will be falling right in front of you in freefall, so smile and give them a wave.
Once landed, the Instructor will present you with that all-important First Jump Certificate. If, after this experience, you wish to continue in the sport, we recommend that you book yourself onto our RAPS Static Line Course. To encourage you, as if you will need it, we will offer you a discount on this course, see our price list for a RAPS Conversion Course. |
