Spitsbergen
Spitsbergen has a surprisingly diverse scenery, with tundra, glaciers, fjords and mountains in the western part rising to more that 5,000 feet. There are many coastal glaciers that calve into the seas, and during the summer, 24 hours of daylight shine on scenery in full bloom. You can observe various animals such as Polar Bears, Walruses and Arctic Foxes. Seabirds breed in millions and whales and dolphins can sometimes be seen offshore. Voyages vary from 8 to 11 days duration, and start and end from Longyearbyen, reached by air via Tromso or Oslo in Norway. See page 100 for the WildWings Spitsbergen tour led by Tony Marr.

Greenland
Our Greenland voyages have expanded to include itineraries in the south, east and west (best for icebergs in the Arctic). Sail into the spectacular Franz Joseph and Scoresby Sund Fjord, the latter being the longest fjord in the world. During many of these voyages, we will also meet the friendly local population of Greenland, see Arctic wildlife and birds including whales and of course experience the spectacular Aurora Borealis on fine nights in late summer and autumn. Itineraries start from Spitsbergen, Iceland and Greenland itself, reached by air directly from Denmark or Canada. WildWings assisted the film production company making the documentary on Shackleton starring Kenneth Branagh for Channel 4 in 2001, part-filmed in Greenland. Voyages vary from 12 to 15 days duration.

Arctic Canada
Follow the paths of early explorers Frobisher, Baffin and Franklin who sought the elusive Northwest Passage. Experience the beauty and openness of the Arctic Sea, it’s landscapes and wildlife and learn about the history and depth of Inuit culture. The expedition ship Ioffe (Marinerer), promises abundant wildlife sightings including the majestic Polar bear, birds and the true Arctic whales on her exciting expeditions in this region, 11 – 14 days duration. See pages 96-97 for the WildOceans tour to Greenland and Baffin Island led by Dick Filby.
