This property offers superb birding in and around the grounds, set in a paradise bay location with the aforementioned beach hammocks. Turnstones walk around your feet in the bar picking up the scraps, Bentleys are recommended as a refreshing non-alcoholic drink, whilst the Speyside Mudslide is definitely only suggested for the evenings after the sun has set. Bananaquits will join you on the table for breakfast, they nest in the flower baskets hanging above you. Spend time walking around the gardens and along the dirt road to the right of the entrance of the property as you walk up the hill. Bird i.d. boards have been erected in the gardens recently. When the heat of the day is up, sit on the beach in the shade under a tree or take a dip in the bay. If you wish, the reception desk will arrange for Newton or another birding guide for you to explore the island with, or to rent a self-drive car.
Half day trips run to Little Tobago, just across the water, currently costing US$30.00 (c£17.00) per person U$55.00 (c£31.00) per person, with a guide, and usually including a short snorkel over the coral reef, for those that wish (‘Top Ranking’ is our suggested operator). We strongly recommend taking a packed lunch and drinks and spending the whole day on the island. The breeding seabirds (November to June) can be photographed at close range but do take care on the steeper sections. Red-billed Tropicbirds, Brown and Red-footed Boobies, Laughing Gull, Magnificent Frigatebirds, Sooty and Bridled Terns are easy. A few pairs of White-tailed Tropicbird now breed (January March the best chance) and Audobon’s Shearwater can be seen offshore. For the brave, the usually rough boat trip to St Giles should also yield Masked Bobby.
The property is about a half-hour drive from the Tobago Rain Forest Reserve and it’s special species, the drive to/from the airport taking about an hour and a half or so.
The hotel is well away from the island's main tourist areas, and tucked away in its own private horseshoe shaped bay, a bay lined with majestic Seagrape trees, and set amidst forty six acres of lush tropical grounds. Guests enjoy both the seclusion and the tranquillity that Blue Waters Inn has to offer. The rooms include 3 Bungalows with full kitchens (a few steps above the beach), 4 self-catering apartments, and 31 standard rooms. Our prices are based on the standard rooms, other types available subject to supplement. The Fish-pot restaurant and Shipwreck bar offer good local, Caribbean, and international food and snacks. Blue Waters caters for birders and nature lovers, scuba divers, families, weddings, honeymoons and those just looking for pure rest and relaxation. It makes a great destination in its own right, with direct flights from London to the island, and Tobago should definitely be considered an essential add-on by all our clients who visit Trinidad. The enthusisatic manager Duane and his staff will make sure you enjoy your stay.
