Frequently asked questions
Where should I go?
If this is your first project, you may want to consider a UK or a European project. Travellers who already have independent experience may want to try one of the long haul projects.
The Projects
Most projects are run by local non-governmental organisations in the field of wildlife and nature conservation. They also act as the ground operator for Ecovolunteers. About 77% of the cost of your trip goes directly to the project.
Prices
The price includes your accommodation and participation in the project. Some include food, most dont so check the write up for your chosen project. Travel to the project joining point is not included. WildWings will be pleased to quote for and arrange your flights and arrange any pre/post project hotels etc. Travel insurance, visas if applicable, drinks, laundry and other items of a personal nature are not included. A deposit of £100 per person will be required to confirm your place (non-refundable) with the balance being due 8 weeks before departure at the latest.
Accommodation
Accommodation is usually basic, and on at least a twin share basis. It may be a field station, local home, cabin of a ship, or even a tent, the project writeup will make it clear. Often kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared by the entire project team. Shopping and cleaning are part of daily activities.
Dietary preferences can be accepted only if your project includes food, but cannot be guaranteed. Please bear in mind in some places the food will be almost all vegetarian, in others (e.g. the Arctic) it will be mainly meat and fish. Expect local food in most cases. All part of the experience!
The Work
Most daily activities include:
* practical jobs like taking care of the animals.
* educating locals and tourists
* assisting the researchers
Full training will be given, you may want to read up about the country, the area and of course the animals before you go. All equipment that you will need on the job will be supplied.
