FLIGHT TO THE EDGE OF SPACE

The MiG-31 (‘Foxhound’) is one of the highest flying aircraft in the world, the view from close to 70,000 feet (21,000m) is simply breathtaking, with the darkness of space above and to your sides with pronounced curvature of the Earth clearly visible. The ultimate view without going into Space itself. Don’t forget your camera! Your amazing experience will include flying at over twice the speed of sound. Your pilot will be amongst the world’s finest, and he will be in constant contact with you throughout your flight you will be shown the altimeter, machmeter and g-force meter in front of you………………….

After the ground crew has strapped you in, the canopy is shut around you. This is it, you're ready to go. The pilot starts the aircraft’s twin engines and performs his safety checks whilst they warm for a few minutes, then she taxis out onto the end of the runway. After a few more minutes of checks , he opens the throttle still sitting on the brakes. You really are going now. The aircraft jumps forward as the brakes are released, the afterburners coming on with twin tails of orange flames giving renewed urge to the rapidly increasing speed. After a few more seconds, smooth take off, accelerating towards Mach 1 all the time. A couple of gentle  360 degree  rolls bring a renewed surge of adrenaline and excitement. Shortly after takeoff your aircraft will already be accelerating  through the sound barrier and heading towards Mach 2 as your pilot continues to pull the stick back. The climb to altitude is quick, the voice in your headset will start counting off the kilometres,  18, 19, 20 and finally 21 kilometres altitude, above 99% of the atmosphere. The sky will be black, the Earth curving away below you, the atmosphere a thin blue line glowing on the horizon. There is only space beyond. You will be one of the fastest travelling, highest flying humans. You can take photos and videos before your even more rapid descent, a final roll over the airfield, turn, gear down and land.

Our pilots

The men that fly our jets are simply amongst the best pilots in the world, all test pilots from the Sokol factory that builds the jets for the Russian Airforce. They all speak good English and will be in constant communication  with you throughout your flight adventure via your aircraft’s intercom system. (And if you hold a pilot’s license…….)

Note: The MiG31 is a modern replacement of our original MiG25 Edge of Space Flight aircraft and will operate from Nizhny Novgorod, a few hundred kilometres from Moscow.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1: (Depart UK in morning and arrive Moscow late afternoon.) Transfer to your 5* luxury hotel.  Evening at leisure.

Day 2: Transfer from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod (by plane/train or road), three nights 5* hotel, bed and breakfast. A selection of local tours are included  in your stay.

Day 3: Depart hotel after breakfast for airbase . Arrival, suit up, final medical check, pre-flight briefing and safety training before your thrilling ride to the Edge of Space in a MiG31. Photos with your pilot and aircraft after landing. Return to your hotel in the afternoon. Evening at leisure.

Day 4: At leisure.  Also acts as a back up flight day.

Day 5: Transfer back to Moscow airport. Flight back to UK arriving late evening.

NB: Each client’s itinerary will vary slightly. Note minimum pre-booking period of at least 45 days for this unique experience.  Subject to medical, visa and security clearances being granted.
