IT MUST BE AUTUMN THE ORCAS ARE BACK

IN NORWAY!

Killer Whales, Sea Eagles & the Northern Lights

Seven-night whale safaris are offered throughout the month of November by wildlife tour operator, WildWings, to witness the autumn spectacle of hundreds of killer whales feasting on the huge shoals of herring in the deep fjords of north Norway.

November in north Norway is likely to bring the first fall of snow, whilst the autumn colours will be at the finest and the clear nights may display one of nature’s most colourful spectacles – the Aurora Borealis or northern lights.

Sailing onboard the ‘Noorderlicht’, a cosy two-mast 46-meter sailing vessel, passengers are positively encouraged to handle the sails, man the helm and take a turn on night watch during these whale watching holidays with a difference.

The voyage embarks and disembarks in the harbour of Lodingen (an hour’s journey from Evenes airport).  Two full days are spent in the Tysfjord area on the lookout for groups of orcas hunting for herring, with one day each in Vestfjord and Trollfjord Raftsund, reported to be one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords.  And, for the more ‘arty’ passengers, there are Stone Age petroglyphs depicting orcas at Leiknes, 9000-year old rock paintings at Nes in Kanstadfjord and a 37 tonne sculpture by Indian artist, Anish Kapoor.

The price of £679pp sharing a twin cabin includes accommodation onboard the boat, all meals, shore excursions and Zodiac activities. Price excludes the international airfare (from £310 return).

Departures: 25 Oct–1 Nov, 1–8 Nov, 8-15 Nov, 15–22 Nov, 29 Nov–6 Dec, 2005.  Also Nov 2006.

Or take a day trip from a local UK airport at £299pp including return flights, five-hour guided boat whale safari including lunch, transfers and taxi.  There are opportunities to Zodiac cruise and snorkel with the whales too!
