The first generation of commercial passenger spacecraft will offer sub-orbital space flights. The development of low-cost privately-funded spacecraft is currently underway worldwide, and ticketed rides should commence in the 20089 timeframe. The first tourists to fly to space altitude aboard our aerospace partner’s sub-orbital vehicles will be Space Adventure’s clients… and they are making their reservations today!
Join them now and you will be in the countdown for the next era of human spaceflight.

Space Adventures is collaborating with the leading independent aerospace companies who are each developing their own version of a sub-orbital reusable launch vehicle (RLV).
A detailed four-day flight preparation and training program will precede all of Space Adventures’ sub-orbital space flights. This highly focused and inspiring pre-flight experience will familiarize you with the flight programme, critical vehicle systems, flight operations, zero gravity conditions, in-flight accelerations, and spaceflight safety procedures.
Then, on launch day, with the same anticipation and excitement that astronauts and cosmonauts have experienced since 1961, our flight specialists will help you don your pressure suit and guide you through the final checklist.
3...2...1...Liftoff!
In an unprecedented sensory experience, rocket motors will boost you beyond the normal limits of conventional flight to regions above 62 miles/100 kilometers, the altitude at which outer space begins.
By joining our sub-orbital space flight program now, you will be among the first civilians to experience a flight into space. Travel beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, experience several minutes of weightlessness and see the most spectacular view ever. Nearly 200 passengers have already made their commitment to travel with us into space to date. We would be honoured to place you on this truly exclusive and growing list and ensure you are among the first to experience the most anticipated travel adventure of the 21st Century.
Frequently Asked Questions about Sub-Orbital Spaceflight
What is sub-orbital spaceflight?
When a vehicle reaches space but does not achieve orbital velocity, it follows a parabolic arc and is said to have achieved sub-orbital spaceflight.
Space Adventures sub-orbital spaceflights reach an altitude of at least 62 miles (100 kilometers), which is internationally defined by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the worlds air sports federation as the beginning of space. Sub-orbital spaceflights were first conducted by Alan Shepard and Virgil Gus Grissom in 1961 when they became the first two Americans in space.
When will the flights begin?
Passenger flights are expected to begin in the 20072008 timeframe. Vehicle flight tests have already begun, with the first test flights to space altitude expected to take place by the end of 2003.
What type of vehicle is going to be used for the sub-orbital flights?
A new breed of reusable vehicles are currently being developed and tested by innovative aerospace companies worldwide. Space Adventures has selected a subset of these vehicles that we believe are the best designs and will be the first to become operational. The vehicles that we have partnered to use for our sub-orbital spaceflights are described in further detail on this site.
Where will the flights take off and land?
Launch and landing facilities will depend on vehicle specifications and regulatory codes currently being written. Several U.S. states and foreign countries have shown great interest and the leading candidate launch sites possibilities are currently in North America.
Is sub-orbital spaceflight safe?
All Space Adventures vehicles will be tested and evaluated extensively, as well as certified by the country of manufacture aerospace regulatory commissions (e.g. the Federal Aviation Administration).
Are special skills or training required?
Space Adventures is developing a four-day pre-flight training program for our clients. Though not included or required, we do recommend experiences such as a Zero Gravity flight and centrifuge training to familiarize yourself with the forces to be encountered during spaceflight. No special skills are required but participants should be in good overall health, please consult your Space Adventures representative for further details.
Has anyone registered for the flights yet?
We currently have nearly 200 passengers registered with paid deposits or payment in full for the sub-orbital flight program.
Upon completion of the flight will I be an official astronaut?
No government or company owns the title of Astronaut and your flight to space altitude will be documented and certified by Space Adventures Space Explorers Club, plus all crews will be awarded official Space Adventures astronaut wings. The birth of private human spaceflight will not only be about advances in space technology it will also be a revolution in allowing every day people the chance to become private space explorers. That said, having reached an altitude of 100 km, you will be recognized by the international community as having reached space and therefore will be an astronaut (informal). Space Adventures will award you with your wings and documentation certifying your flight.
Why should I make a reservation in advance?
First, flights are filling up at a steady pace and the demand will rise quickly in following the first test flights. Second, your reservation counts! If this is something you believe in, reserve now-your deposit shows the world that you have become part of the effort to establish private space tourism.
