What's on Porthleven

The Cornish flag of St. Piran, representing a cross of tin on rock. St. Piran is the patron saint of tin miners and of Cornwall. His day -March 5th - is celebrated throughout the county with the focus on a service and procession to the site of his church at Perranporth sands.

There’s flower-arranging, competitions, refreshments and green-fingered experts on hand to answer all your questions about plants, flowers and gardening.

  May Day Festival - St. Ives - various concerts etc taking place between 29 April- 2 May with the May Day Celebrations on 2 May starting at 11.00 am with parade and maypole dancing, may horn and may sticks. 2nd Padstow Obby Oss: is reputed to be the oldest dance festival in the country. It is a festival to mark the coming of Summer. The town is decked with flags, greenery and flowers..
  Helston "beating of the Bounds" Walk the boundary's of Helston. The ancient ritual of Beating the Bounds is one that has been in existence since the Second Charter of Queen Elizabeth in 1585. 15th St Michaels Way Walk
Mounts Bay Rotary Club invite you to join them in celebrating Macmillan's Centenary by participating in the Annual Charity Walk from Lelant to Marazion.
Walk the St Michael's Way a twelve mile route starting at Lelant Church at 10.00am, following the route used by Irish and Welsh pilgrims who were heading for Santiago Campestela in Spain.

19th May 2012 Olympic torch sets off from Lands End and passing through Sennen, Newlyn, Penzance, Marazion, Rosudgeon, Ashton, Breage, Helston, Falmouth, Truro, Newquay, St Austell, Bodmin, Liskeard, Saltash and finishing the day at Plymouth. (Time tbc)
16th to 22nd St. Ives Food and Drink Festival
Running from the 16th to the 22nd May and culminating in a food and drink producers’ market and cooking demonstrations on West Pier on the town’s West Pier - the St Ives Food and Drink Festival gives you the opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about Cornish food and drink. Taste, try, meet, buy, and enjoy the finest flavours and tastes that Cornwall has to offer, see some of the best chefs in the county giving cooking demonstrations and enjoy everything that St Ives has to offer, including some of the best food and drink destinations anywhere in the UK.

Golowan Festival in Penzance - a celebration of the Feast of St John and of ancient summer Celtic traditions, including dances, street theatre, firework displays, music etc. Mazey Day will be on Saturday 25 June. St Ives Biathlon - St Ives' well known Surf Lifesaving Biathlon attracts an increasing number of international athletes (as well as local people including me!) who take part in a 1 1/2 mile run from St Ives, along the coastal path to Carbis Bay and then 1 1/2 mile sea swim from Carbis Bay to St Ives. Falmouth Walking Carnival - Entry is free, you do not need to register and it starts from the Rugby Club at the Recreation Ground. Falmouth Oyster Festival.- Events Square, Falmouth.
Timed to coincide with the start of the oyster-harvesting season, the festival celebrates one of the only remaining oyster fisheries still dredged under sail and oar. 24th to 27th Made in Cornwall Christmas Craft Fayre. All things made in the county. Good for Christmas shopping. Lemon Quay, Truro.
December
  Truro Fatstock Show (Primestock Show)- Annual Show held on the Lemon Quay. The annual Primestock Show is a favourite with farmers and families alike. Lemon Quay will be filled with cattle and sheep as the best Cornish beasts are judged. Livestock will be sold and leave by 3pm, but the event is open until the evening  Also displays of veg and baking.
  Truro Victorian Christmas - THe Piazza, Truro
The Christmas event with a huge celebration of food, drink and crafts and the stallholders all in Victorian dress. (do not think the prices will be Victorian :( )
 
Christmas lights - worth a look are Newlyn, Mousehole, Helston, Breage, Ashton and of course Porthleven.
