Wokingham District Mencap - About Us
Wokingham District Mencap is a charity that works with people with learning disabilities. Our aim is to improve the lives of children and adults with learning disabilities, and their siblings and carers, in the Wokingham District. A key element of our aims and objectives is that everyone with a learning disability has the right to:
  • Have a choice in what they do and how they do it
  • Be involved in decisions about their lives
  • Learn and develop
  • Work, or do meaningful things
  • Be involved in their community
  • Respect, for themselves as individuals, for what they can do, and for their rights and responsibilities
Wokingham District Mencap is affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society and is a registered charity. It is a relatively new organisation, and has existed in its own right since 1999.

Locally, Wokingham District Mencap provides information and support to families. This includes a regular newsletter, social events and services. The Society is managed by a committee of volunteers and employs a Development Manager and Office Manager as well as project staff. We work very closely with Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board and have strong links with both voluntary and statutory organisations.
