Get Smart Stay Safe - Free Self Defence Classes For Young Women In Southport
The next FREE Staying Safe - Self Defence course starts next Tuesday 10th January 2012 run by Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association. The training given is aimed at increasing confidence in the young women as well as equipping them with self defence skills.

Self Defence Classes

The course tutors are ex policeman and chairman of the Community association, Ted Hartill, and Phil Barton martial arts & boxing instructor. They said: “We believe every young woman should be given tuition on personal safety and self-defence, and if they only remember a few of the things that we teach them it could be the difference between them getting away from an incident or being seriously assaulted. RAF Woodvale 70th Anniversary

RAF Woodvale 70th Anniversary

Officers from RAF Woodvale presented a cheque for £1000 to Ted Hartill (Chair) of Woodvale & Ainsdale Community Centre. The RAF Woodvale 70th Anniversary open day, and evening concert raised funds for two local charities. Davina Suthren, Centre Manager said “We are very grateful to all the hard work that went into the fund raising event, it was a fantastic day for all the local community, and was very well attended”.

We are very proud to announce that we have, this year, after a stringent assessment passed an
inspection by ‘Becoming Visible, Quality Assurance’.

Membership Of Woodvale & Ainsdale Community Association
We now offer membership to residents who live within our ‘area of benefit’ which is Woodvale & Ainsdale. Annual Membership is 50p for under 18’s and £1 for Adults. A young person’s membership entitles a member to priority bookings on activities/courses here at WACA. Adult membership entitles a member to priority bookings on activities/courses as well as a discount on Room Hire at both of our sites. Adult members will also be invited along to our Annual General Meeting where they can vote to elect new Committee Members.

Free Self Defence Classes For Young Women In Southport
Fourteen young women between the ages of 13 and 19 years have just completed an intensive Personal Safety and Self-defence course, run by Woodvale & Ainsdale Community Association.

The training given is aimed at increasing confidence in the young women as well as equipping them with self defence skills.
The course tutors are local policeman and chairman of the Community association, Ted Hartill, and Phil Barton martial arts & boxing instructor. They said: “We believe every young woman should be given tuition on personal safety and self-defence, and if they only remember a few of the things that we teach them it could be the difference between them getting away from an incident or being seriously assaulted.

“Thanks must go to Sefton Youth Service for funding the project, Radio City, and Sefton Neighbourhood Fund for their support in providing safety mats, which has enabled us to continue running these courses.
