James Wright, the Company's Managing Director, started out on a career in Forestry and Landscaping in 1976. Initially working as a general forestry operator he gained valuable hands on experience across a wide range of disciplines. Over the next 15 years, including some at college, he gained management qualifications and experience as he graduated to General Foreman before becoming a Manager for the Forestry Commission.
In 1989 he was approached by Economic Forestry Group plc and became a senior manager in their North West and North Wales Landscaping Division which he developed and was soon managing contracts worth up to £500,000 for major clients such as Powergen.
Gaining in experience and confidence in managing larger projects, and seeing a gap in the market for a medium sized contractor that could offer a more personal and closer client/contractor relationship and therefore produce a higher quality end product he set up Wright Landscapes in 1992.
With a small initial team he was once again back on the tools, which he and the other directors of the present day company still enjoy, and see as being an integral part of the hands on approach to each project undertaken. The company grew steadily undertaking work for both private clients mainly in Shropshire and Cheshire, and for Local authorities and public utilities across North Wales. James sits on the board of Governors at the Welsh College of Horticulture assisting with the development of the Currculum for students to help prepare them for the requirements of the industry.
Sue Wright joined the business in 1995 to run the financial and administrative side of the business.
In October 2000 Arwel Griffith opened the Anglesey office and was employed as a Project Manager to develop the business in North West Wales. Arwel had worked with James at EFG 10 years earlier and having had an educational background in Forestry and subsequently Landscape Architecture Arwel spent the eight years prior to October 2000 working in the Planning Departments of two North Wales Local Authorities as a project Officer and Tree and Landscape Officer. During this time he was responsible for the design and implementation of a number of environmental enhancement schemes, including some award winning schemes. Since joiing the Company Arwel has significantly expanded the client base in North West Wales.
In May 2003 Steve Emery joined the Company to open the new Abergele office completing the link between Wrexham and Anglesey. With a background in horticulture, and many years as Senior Contracts Manager for various landscape contractors in the North West and North Wales, Steve brings a wealth of experience to the management team which has enabled the Company to expand further whilst maintaining a high quality of service and a close working relationship with our clients.
In June 2003 Wright Landscapes became a Limited Company with James Wright as Managing Director and Sue Wright, Arwel Griffith, and Steve Emery as directors.
